I’ve also enjoyed the previous books in this series. This can be read as a standalone. I’ve actually read the books out of order. I’d advise to read them from the beginning though, it gives a fuller understanding of “the world“ the characters are from and what has brought people in contact.

I couldn’t put the book down once I picked it up. It’s very dark so I absolutely recommend you to check your triggers. With that being said, read it. If you love dark mafia romance, then this book will definitely be up your alley. I read this book as a standalone because well I haven’t read any other book from this author. Let me tell you, 30% into this book I was already looking up the author and adding all her books to my wishlist to buy them because I’m obsessed now. I won’t ever forget the things that happened in this book, I was telling my husband and anybody else that would listen, because I just had to talk about it. It’s very intense and unhinged but so good. I felt in love with Nate and I think I’m insane for it but I don’t care he’s just perfect. Okay his not perfect, his crazy and a psychopath, but the author wrote him so well that I’m now a fan. I can’t wait to read more from Lola king. I’m now I fan of hers.

I have no words to describe how intense but lovely this book was, I absolute enjoyed every second. The way that Nathan and Kayla fell for eachother so intensely was just…*chefs kiss* It had just the right amount of plot twist along with smut. The plot twist? Perfect. Lola tells you from the beginning that he will manipulate you and he does just that! LOVE him though!

Not even if that someone is none other than her new husband, Nathan White . Nathan is someone who doesn’t have the word “no” in his vocabulary - what he wants, he always gets . But Kayla is no pawn who just lays down + takes what is given to her .. she is someone who will do whatever it takes to get her freedom back . Even if that means using a frying pan as a weapon LMFAO . Will the two of them be able to find love in this messed up situation they are in ?
WOW WIDE RANGE OF EMOTIONS ALERT ! This book was so freaking good !!! I laughed until I cried, I cried until I laughed, I felt rage, heartbreak, over whelming joy + everything in between . The banter between Nathan + Kayla was EVERYTHING !! The two of them were always pushing each other’s buttons but the pull always brought them back together . I loved that we got to see characters from the other books throughout which was such a fun treat . A great ending to the North Shore series . I can’t wait to see what Lola has in store for us with her next series !
This is book 4 in the North Shore series + it can be read as a complete stand alone .

Kayla King might be known as the Ruthless King to everyone in North Side, but she has one man that she is terrified of. She put him in prison 4 years ago so when he shows up out of nowhere with a devious smile on his face and calling her the nickname he always use to use, she knows she is in so much trouble. When Nathan White - the devil with perfect face - kidnaps her and forced her to marry him, she tries to hold out from Stockholm Syndrome, if only he did not know how to play her body just right and what to do to make her fall into his special kind of torture made just for her desires. She fights every chance she can, but not only is she Kayla King, leader of the Kings and the Ruthless King, but she also has 2 parts of her heart that she is secretly trying to escape back to. Oh and he could never find out about that secret if she wants them to be safe. Will his revenge plan turned obsession lead them both down a path that neither thought was possible? Could her scheming to escape ever really get her away from him? Why does his brand of psycho seem so perfect for her brand of darkness?
These two are crazy is the most insane ways but also the best kind of connection with the most unexpected ending. Oh and threats to unlive each other every chance they get. If you have loved any of the couples that were part of the North Shore series (Caden being my favorite so far), be aware that Nate and Kayla might just threaten to steal your heart.

Unfortunately it was a DNF for me around 50% because I was feeling lost by having not read the other books in the series, SO it’s a dnf “for now” while I got back and read the rest of the series!
I know this is labeled as an interconnected standalone but it’s so clear to me how important the other books are to get the full impact of this story. You know the series where you can read only some of the books cause it’s not so good you are dying for every single page? This isn’t one of those. I’m dying for every single page. Because of this it gets a place holder 4 stars because I have no doubt it’ll be a 5 by the time I catch up on the others and finish this one!

Kayla King and Nathan White. My god was this book good. I devoured it. When I mean devoured, think like that one scene in ‘Silence of the Lamb’ when he goes ‘it rubs the lotion on its skin, it does this whenever its told’. This whole book was the definition of Stockholm syndrome and I was HERE FOR IT!! I felt myself being stockholdmed the whole book. The spice was HOT AF!! Nathan scares me. He is one of those book boyfriends I’m going to be thinking about for a long time. Nathan White is my ROMAN EMPIRE!! God this book was so good!

Kayla, known as “The Ruthless”, Queen of the North Shore and leader of the Kings’ crew, sent a psychopath to prison. He has to be the darkest man I’ve ever read. He’s a full blown psychopath who doesn’t understand emotions. My gosh, I was HOOKED on him! Nate is 10000% unhinged. He really is a walking, talking red flag. AND his nickname for Kayla is “little sunflower”. *pterodactyl screech* The spice was SPICY!
