Better than average thriller. Keeps to a minimum unnecessary interior monologues where main character rethinks what you just read. They are still in there and still unnecessary because he doesn't trust his own writing yet or editors say American public so dimwitted that they need story told several times. Some of these thriller "writers" draw big pictures with crayons and use large type over and over in case you missed it the first 2 times.

This book made me get out a year long reading funk. Amazing plot twists.

Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it! Read after the authors other book “the kind worth killing” and don’t think it kept up with it. Easy to read and enjoyable plot though.
The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is Peter Swanson's debut novel, and it definitely shows, especially if you have read his latest work.

With this book however, a lot of those aspects were lacking and I felt like I needed more.
More questions answered, knots to be picked at and for characters to come to a final conclusion and for me to have that"ah-huh!" moment.
I'm taking a star off this review because I just wanted more.
I didn't feel as attached to the characters as much as I wanted to and the ending felt too loosely tied.
Especially that last chapter?! I mean? ? hello ? w h a t.
Don't let this review deter you from Peter Swanson's work, it was still a really enjoyable read and a great debut novel, it just doesn't compare to his latest work.
He's an incredible suspense/thriller writer and you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be devouring the rest of his books this year like my life depends on it.

Wasn’t quite getting off the ground to begin with, then nosedived quickly into the racist hall of shame (The narrator‘s unnecessary lampoon of an accent didn’t help either)

This is a pretty good story about George unwittingly getting himself involved in a heist/con game. I like that we figure things out right along with George. It was good, but not as good as some of Swanson's other books.

An annoyingly artificial plot construction with a few too many jumps of logic. The very lengthy explanations and justifications in the last quarter of the book are repetitious and patronising. Nevertheless, some interesting moments and the boat scene was excitingly written.
