I just love the way Peter Swanson writes his main characters. I enjoy the crazy characters he describes. He continues to be one of my favorite thriller authors.

As thrillers often do, this book alternated between two interwoven stories. In this case, we got to see the present and past of the protagonist, and his relationship with a young woman he falls in love with in college and how he becomes involved with her later in life as her criminal lifestyle is catching up with her. I found the alternating story line to be frustrating, it felt like it made the book more of a page turner (one of the stories was more compelling than the other at any given moment) without being necessary, since the information of the past story was hidden from the reader but not from the characters in the story. Furthermore, I was unsatisfied with the place in the story where the reader was dropped off. The characters were really interesting and I wanted more time with them and more resolution.

The story starts off very good and gripping. I liked, that there were two timelines – the one in the present in Boston and the one from decades ago when the two main characters were in college. I was excited to find out more about this mysterious Liana-character. But after half of the book the plot lost a lot of its strength, I just don’t believe that one person can plan so far ahead and know exactly how all of the people involved will react to her plots and schemes. All in all, it was still a quick and fairly enjoyable read.

An easy to read light thriller. I enjoyed it :)

An enjoyable easy reading thriller with lots of plot twists thrown.

In The Girl with a Clock for a Heart, George Foss meets and falls in love with a fellow college freshman, Audrey Beck. They spend all of fall semester together but once he returns to school, he finds out that she has committed suicide over Christmas break. George decides to make a trip to visit Audrey’s parents and when he gets there, he realizes that the girl in the picture is not the girl he loved.

He soon finds out that Liana Dector assumed the life of Audrey Beck and the real Audrey Beck is dead. Twenty years later, he sees her at a bar he regularly goes to and Liana tells George that she needs his help. Despite everything, George is still willing to help her.

I picked up this book after reading The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson and I am so glad I did. The plot of this book is as brilliant as the execution. The book was very fast-paced which kept my attention but also made me not want to put the book down. The character development for Liana because despite all of the awful things she did, a part of me felt sorry for her.

My one criticism is about George’s character development and that is most likely just a personal preference. By the time I was halfway through the book, I was completely over his character’s stupidity. I understand him being in love with her but the fact is that he barely knew this woman. Also, George always tried to blame his stupid decisions on curiosity but no one is that curious. Read more here: https://justkeyana.com/the-girl-with-a-clock-for-a-heart/

There were some good/suspenseful moments but I felt like the ending was incredibly abrupt and unfulfilling.

I do not typically read mysteries or thrillers.

But Swanson's book read not like cliché novels of the mystery genre tend to read. It was a combination of obsession, suspense, mystery, and had a very real life feel.

I couldn't help falling deeply into the unfolding narrative and sharing the fascination the main character has for a woman he used to know. Swanson's writing is gripping and modern, not morbidly dramatic or over exaggerated, which is a relief for readers like myself who don't necessarily enjoy thrillers.

This novel truly allowed me to escape the world. From the moment I read the description of the book, I knew it would be unlike anything I had read before and that I couldn't wait to dive into it. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in the book and the story it told.

I was in to this book, but then the ending...
