By far the darkest one of the whole series.

I don't know why the 4 stars are more than the 5 ones, because this book had me crying and screaming and sobbing and fangirling all at the same time, at 5 am. Everyday.

First I was hesitant about reading it, but then I was like THE HECK IS HAPPENING? And I HAD to find out because everything seemed so confusing and strange.

I fell in love with Christian and Patrick and all these amazing characters. One minute everything is peaceful and calm, and the next it's a bloodbath.

It's the first time I cried this hard on a book! It's so sad and depressing and you're always on edge, always afraid something else would suddenly happen.

This is one of these few books that are so capturing and you have literally no expectations whatsoever and you don't have the slightest clue of what may happen. Was I the dumb one or was the plot twist REALLY unexpected? It blew my mind!! I only had doubts 1 page away from the plot twist.

Camilla Lackberg is officially one of my favorite authors. Looking forward to read more of her books!

Spoilers ahead!

SpoilerOne of the reasons why I love it is because I'm in love with books that involve mental illnesses, so in love that I actually started writing about them in my soon to be published series. And Christian's case is a very mysterious one, very interesting. His past is so sad.

UPDATE (2 days later)** NO IDK WHY I CAME BACK TO THIS REVIEW, I FEEL LIKE I HAVEN'T SAID EVERYTHING IN MY HEART.

- I felt like when christian died it was the end of the story and I didn't wanted to read past that because I fell in love with him!!
- WHAT IS THIS ENDING!!! I MEAN HEART ATTACK AND ACCIDENTS AND WHAT IS HAPPENING WHY IS THERE ALWAYS TROUBLE??
- I've never sobbed so much in my life. CAUSE OF DEATH: CAMILLA LACKBERG.
- I was always like "It's Alice. It's not Alice. It's Alice. OMG HOW COULD IT BE FREAKING ALICE? WHO'S THAT FREAKING MERMAID?
- The book title should have been "The Mermaid."
- I feel like the rape that happened is bad, but it's not that bad that they should all repay by being killed. They were young and drunk and didn't understand, especially Magnus who was totally out and who was forced to do it because of Eric. Magnus didn't deserve death.
- And i found it so dumb that Christian wasn't under surveillance before his death. HOW COULD YOU KILL HIM OMG
- I feel so bad for Cia, Sanna and especially Maria and her child that the mermaid killed. The mermaid is so creepy.

Wow. What a roller coaster. I really enjoyed this book. At the beginning I think it was too many characters. I kept losing track of who was who and it was confusing but by the end all the pieces fit together and it was a great ending. What a sad life that Christian and Alice lived. This book reminds me of Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent because it’s full of complex characters each with their own sad history.

Honestly I feel like if I read the entire book in one day I would have enjoyed it more. Uni left me in a big reading slump so I guess that ruined it

Also I hope Erik falls off a cliff and dies. His existence makes me want to shred the book into tiny pieces.

sarei trovata a leggere.

Mojej relacji z Camillą Läckberg można spokojnie nadać status „to skomplikowane”.

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. As always, an honest review.

This is the second book I’ve read by Camilla Lackberg, and I’m still very impressed with her quality of work. The Drowning is eerie, mysterious, beautiful, and sinister. It’s set in modern day Sweden and incorporates the unique wonderful landscape into her writing. We pick back up again with Patrik and Erica, who are both trying to solve the mystery of the origin of the threatening letters Christian is receiving. Christian is a first time author that Erica has been mentoring. Christian’s friends begin receiving letters too and the danger escalates. I liked that there wasn’t too much graphic violence, but small actions that tell at something much more sinister. The reader gets just enough tidbits from the past to fill in some details. It kept me reading more, in hopes of unraveling the mystery that the author has carefully woven. Compared to some of her other books The Drowning took a little longer to get invested in, but I’m glad I did because it turned out wonderfully terrible. I also like that this book doesn’t seem like a repeat of the previous in the series. Enough characters are the same that they tie together well. The growth and continuation of the characters is also much appreciated as a reader. Overall, The Drowning is an eerily creepy and beautiful murder mystery that kept me wanting to find out how it would unravel.
