I enjoyed how the plot unfolded. Never realized what a badass Tarkin is! Definitely well written and clear explaining throughout the story. This is my 4th Star Wars book.

Very nice back story on Tarkin. Who he is, and why he is.
Definitely a fun read that was hard to put down. Governor Tarkin is such an intriguing character even from only what you see of him in the original film. To see what made such a man so cunning, so cold, and so ruthless was alluring. Plus, let's be honest, though the Empire is just flat out evil... it is just so damn fun to see how they gained all that power over the galaxy.
Another solid exploration of Dark Side characters by James Luceno, perhaps the most reliable writer currently in the Disney SW stable.
It's not an essential read by any means, and I've always struggled with novels with protagonists I don't like - though Luceno does explore how his background forged him, without excusing him.
I loved the subtle joke about getting well fitting boots....

This book took me months to read and i found it so slow and like a chore. The plot consists of a cat and mouse chase with nearly no growth from any of the characters. The ending was predictable and I felt like I gained nothing from the Star Wars universe from reading it as built on the universe or character. Nearly through the entirety of the story I figured something big would happen. I also felt like I was just waiting for it to get better and it never did. This adventure for lack of a better term would have been much better as a short story.
