There's so much love and subtlety in these stories. I'm in awe of Muñoz's ability to both simplify and complicate narrative tension all at once.
One of the best story collections I’ve ever read. I rarely am blown away by books anymore, but chispas this was outstanding!

I love the callback in the last story of this book. A really good read, especially being from the Central Valley. I actually feel like every single person in my family would get something out of this collection.
A new vital voice. Echoes of Carver. As I write this he was just named a 2023 MacArthur Fellow.

it’s hard to rate this collection because the last story was incredibly compelling and beautiful and some of the beginning stories were really thought-provoking, but there were a few stories that i found rather boring and lacking any sort of insight into the world of the characters at the individual or societal level. in the stories that were good there were reflections on class, gender, and immigration status and what it means to care for one another
