In this case, the movie (with Matt Damon) is better than the book.
BAM. What is good about espionage - strategy, the grittiness, the difficulty. Great story. And Marie in the book? Oh yeah, she is WAY cooler than in the movie.

I am sure if I had read the Bourne Identity closer to when it was released in 1980 I might have enjoyed it more. While I enjoy a great thriller and have a fondness for assassins and intrigue, this novel did not quite deliver for me. Some of the repetition and suspension of belief regarding what one person can endure was a bit much. The Marie character was such a character of convenience to move the story from one point to the next... but really? The women that he kidnaps (and treats pretty badly during that period) falls in love with him because he saved her from an even badder guy. She gives up everything to go on the run with him. All before she even realizes that he is an amnesiac???
I am a pretty fast reader but it took me a much longer time to get through this because I had to motivate myself to continue. The repetitive nature of some of the dialogue was driving me crazy. I kept thinking that if I was reading it in 1980 this may have been a novel novel, but in 2019/20 it falls a bit flat.

Finally! Only took me two years. To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed this book more without the movie in my head. Both are good on their own, and I think the book actually has the better, clearer, plot. But there were times when I felt like I was reading a novel length rondel, if you've read it, you'll know the phrases I'm thinking of). But the overall plot was good, just a bad experience reading it. Sorry dad, I tried.
I think the movie version tells the story much much much better than the book.
Written in 1980 and you can tell it. A 22 hour audio book it was repetitive and long winded.
Yeah, this had pretty much nothing in common with the movie, other than the title. I really liked the book though. A new series for me to start!
I enjoy suspense and the book is completely different than the movie. I thought it was a fun read that can be followed through multiple interruptions and not too much sleep.
