can’t lie i was deeply engaged. 2.5 tho. this book kept me company on a train ride gone horribly wrong this morning so thank u ms kinsella. so thoughts - when it’s bad it’s So Bad (like, seriously) but when it’s good it’s So Good . . . it could’ve probably been like 100 pages shorter bc idk did we really need to see the depths of rebecca’s delusion like six or seven times before she starts to learn her lesson. also some of the jokes . . . very dated. HOWEVER - the chemistry w luke and the friendship w suze ? so fun i love them.

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is a young adult fiction book about Becky Bloomwood, who is a financial journalist who gives others financial advice, but she is actually in debt due to her own financial troubles and shopping habits. This book was really funny and interesting to read. I found it somewhat relatable to my life, and I think a lot of others would too. Becky is an extremely relatable character in her thoughts, actions and dialogue. This made me want to continue reading the book. I also really liked the other characters and thought they all contributed something unique to the story. However, there was not a lot of depth to the characters and the plot of the story. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to any young adults who are looking for a fun read for the summer. There are many other books in the series which I am also excited to read!

Hmmm...Rebecca was kind of annoying. Not to mention a gold digger in the making. What is her problem! Seriously! Some things made me laugh, but she was a disappointing character.

I loved this book. Rebecca is silly, a little narcissistic, an air-head, overconfident, delusional, and overly optimistic protagonist. She’s absolutely fabulous. You are immersed in her journey because her reasonings for her actions in theory sound plausible but they’re just laughable. A really fun and truly timeless book.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to laugh, especially those with "shopaholic" issues.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Praise:
—> Relatable - as I read Rebecca’s thoughts surrounding her spending, her analysing her conversations with other characters my first thought is — why is she always on a high horse, always daydreaming and can’t seem to hold herself accountable for anything! But then I step back and think oh I do that too!

—> Always onto the next thing - I understand Rebecca is unhappy with her current job and is working on ways to find something more suitable for her ‘expensive taste’ but she does that as she is considering new things. It’s like she has a thought for cutting back/ making more money but she literally dives in head first! and creates unrealistic expectations — again relatable!
—> I like that the author incorporated actual formal styled letters - its a nice touch

Criticism:
—> Luke Brandon — he’s a bit blah honestly! He’s sort of jumping onto the next thing when his girlfriend leaves him towards the end and Rebecca is aware of that in a way. He bad mouths a client on national TV! Personally, I feel he could have worded him realising the insurance company was a rip off. Not saying he should have been okay with it. It was good he was in favour on the right thing. He could have been more professional — how is he a multimillionaire!?

—> Towards the end, I was hoping for Rebecca to apply her financial knowledge in her own life as well and we do get a glimpse into — when she says no to shopping but later when she orders herself sunglasses from a TV ad and CHOOSES to miss her bank meeting is a let down — of course, if she did go through with it then it wouldn’t be a series!

Overall, I enjoyed this book, it was lighthearted

Such a fast-paced read! I relate to being a shopaholic and I'm hoping to improve just like Rebecca.
