Oh my lord!! I was NOT expecting that!!!!!

It pains me to say that The Dare left me disappointed.

I went into it after reading many reviews about the terrifying clowns, about how kinky it is, how degrading, and so on.
And it just... wasn't. Yes, there is some degradation, yes, there are clowns, but none of it is actually intimidating, or even intense.

Very lukewarm.

ain’t know way all the losers from high school got big dicks

I'm going to be honest, from how everyone talked about this book I actually expected it to be a lot MORE. I was pleasantly surprised that there's the tiniest hint of a plot in there and I actually really liked that. I could definitely see myself reading a longer book about these characters where there's some actual plotlines involved.

However, just because I was perfectly happy with what happened in this book does not mean it's for everyone. Please make sure to doublecheck the content warnings at the beginning of the book because this is 100% not everybody's cup of tea and that is okay. However, I loved it.

My friend has been telling me to read The Dare for months. Now that I've read it, I don't understand why I put it off for so long. Not only is it deliciously spicy, but the storyline is so rich. The characters have layers and depth to them. This is a novella but has consumed my brain as if it were a full-length novel. I'm in love.

I had no clue this was mostly going to be erotica, which isn't what I look for in my romance reads even though I do like smut! Point being: the chemistry, tension, and backstory between Jessica and Manson had me flipping through the pages and finishing this novella super quick. There aren't many books tackling the flipped version of the "opposites attract" trope in which the out-of-this-world beautiful, popular character is the girl and the misfit-loser-wallflower-bullied character is the guy. Looooved that dynamic and def wanna read more about them!

The rest of the sub/dom, smut, "why choose?" aspects of the book I could do without, but I'm sure those who are into that are in for a treat.
