I may be biased, as I have seen in the past the Hannibal Rising movie, but I loved this book. What fascinates me so much about Han
Is this the weird one w the weird ending? Girrrrl. The ghetto.

In spite of beautiful language and fun touches of Japanese and French influence, Hannibal Rising is the weakest showing by far in the Hannibal Lecter Saga. Though it is interesting for me as a fan of the character to read Hannibal's origin story, the plot was unnecessarily complicated; the secondary characters and villains (other than Lady Murasaki) weren't fleshed out or interesting; and due to Hannibal's seeming omniscience, the stakes remain incredibly low. All in all, it was an unimpressive 100 pages of story in a 300 page novel that comes off as a low-brow artsy crime book.

This book takes us back to Lector's not so humble beginnings where we discover the hows, whys and wherefores of the world's most notorious fictional serial killer. I loved this book, I thought it was very well thought out and Harris has obviously spent a lot of time thinking about Lector and how he is in the previous three books, about what would make a man commit the crimes he did and how such circumstances would affect a person's mind. I loved how this book changed Lector from the cold blooded heartless killer we first met in Red Dragon to a justified and in some morbid way loveable psychopath who kills only those who offend and ridicule the classical arts and civilised society. All without us, the readers, even realising it. I loved everything about this book and look forward with great excitment and anticipation for the next installment.
