This book has no plot. Nothing. There’s an attempt at something resembling a plot but it comes too late to even bother about. If Gaarder wanted to write an accessible philosophy textbook for teenagers, why didn’t he just do it? There was too much trying to be clever and not enough actual story. I had read that it really picked up near the end but for me it just got worse... hallucinating Disney character to make a point? Give me a break!

I read this book years ago but it made a huge impression on me. Yet another book I need to read again. Not having been lucky enough to have taken a philosophy course, my knowledge of the subject was extremely limited before reading this book. Seen through the eyes of a child, lessons in philosophy become much more digestible. A wonderful, whimsical, thoughtful read.

weirdddd book. philosophy portion was very solid and easy to follow, which was great. the plot was rather less strong. do not read this book for realistically written girls, or fifteen year olds, or people in general; you will be disappointed. yay philosophy though

Odd book, difficult to read. Very linear. Study of philosophy, bit boring.
