I'm reading this on Xander's recommendation and I highly recommend it to everyone. A great magical adventure story! This book was sooooo good! I may wait to read the second one because Xander warned me that it ends on a cliff hanger. I might need to wait until the third comes out and then read them both together. For anyone who likes a good magical adventure story I highly recommend this one!!!
It made a great audio book too - read by the incredible Jim Dale (he of the Harry Potter audio book brilliance).

Creepy and confusing, this is a book for kids which at times is just to weird and dark to be for kids. I recommend it to tweens who would be into a dark, creepy read that leaves some questions unanswered (for the next book).

This book was for younger readers than I am so I found it a little boring in parts. Younger readers should like it but it’s just not my type of book.

I really enjoyed this book. There were many twist. Since I have I picked this book up I have reread it many times!

Great series beginning! Love the characters and the idea of being able to travel through time with the atlas. Glad the kids had solid friends to support them in their quest. Good story.

This started off a lot like Harry Potter/ Chronicals of Narnia. The more it went on the more Lord of the Rings I got. My first reactions were kinda "eh", not very original. But it's a really fast read and as I got into the book I found myself really wanting to find out what happens next and getting to know the cahracters. I think I really identified with them because there were three siblings, 2 girls and a boy and I could identify with being the oldest girl. I liked it, not my favorite kids/fantasy book ever but I'm sure I will finish the series. It's good. Would be a great read aloud book too.

Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Not bad.

I really enjoyed this story! I am not sure why people do not talk about it very much. Good plot, good characters, good action. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Action packed plus heart. Yes, its a lot like Narnia, but the protagonists talk like modern kids, making it all that more appealing. I also liked that fact that just when the story seems to get too bogged down in fantasy cliche, it whips you back with moments of pure, unadulterated emotion, appropriate to the age group it targets (8-12.) Look forward to reading the rest!
