Dear Roshani Chokshi if you are reading this (if you even have an account on here) 1.Thank you for guiding through grief with your books and making who I am today (u raised me with wisdom and stories) and I wish this book came out in 2016/ I know your tired of this but sorry for your loss
2. Sending many blessings for making Corazon an Aries and releasing Aru Shah on my birthday
And 3. Expect me to one day publish a book that will make you cry to. We will meet again…someday.

Dear readers I must warn you this is the first book in years that made me cry because one reunion and to letting go due to an hinted accident. Read this book if you want something similar to Howls Moving Castle and Nightmare Before Christmas.

This book gave me the smile I needed for this week. Saso's personality and is my favorite thing. Roshani Chokshi writes the best the kicks along with her main characters. I loved the mythology especially the main one I had heard before.

Honestly needed this book.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great exploration of family and grief. I liked the sense of adventure and magic. Of course it was nice to see all the Filipino aspects in the story.

Love the worldbuilding, the characters, everything. Reminds me of Spirited Away but with Filipino mythology, as well as a poignant ending.

I don’t remember the last time I’ve cried this much reading a book. Such a beautiful and incredibly moving story about grief, loss, and the love that is left behind to live on in us.

Okay, not gonna lie, my favorite part is Corazón's gecko buddy who thinks he's a giant crocodile. The pure adorable bloodthirstiness is amazing. I am so excited that Roshani Chokshi had the opportunity to share mythology from her Filipino side with Riordan Presents. If you liked Aru Shah you'll also love this standalone adventure. It does deal with some heavier topics, since Corazón is trying to come to terms with her parents' death. Her powers have to do with spirits so there's a long grief process in accepting that loss as permanent. But even with these topics, that lighter Riordan-esque vibe still runs beneath it.

A standalone middle grade fantasy from the author of the Aru Shah series featuring Filipino mythology. I've been wanting to read more of Roshani Chokshi's works only having dabbled with her short stories and this did not disappoint. I may have been feeling burnt out on reading so many books showcasing Filipino mythology (but also I hope there's even more) and there was a storyline that seemed to wrap up a bit too conveniently for my liking but I was practically cheering how good this book was by the end. I think the audiobook is worth it just to hear the character of Saso, the delusional power hungry gecko. (If I remember correctly, the physical and e-versions have an introduction by Rick Riordan and a glossary of Tagalog terms.)
