Just skip the author's narrative. Maddy's story is a warning to all parents to watch their kiddos for signs of depression. May Maddy's family find comfort knowing their pain is bringing wisdom to other parents.
I feel like this book is something everyone should read. Not just parents and teachers but the students of those parents and teachers. If you can’t see yourself in aspects of this story, I’m sure you know someone that does. The author does an incredible job of blending facts with Maddy’s story to help people try to understand how things like this happen. Mental health matters and this book is a great example of that.

As I read this, I was thinking of all the people who I thought should also read it. I have some small issues with the way it was written and sequenced, but overall it was an interesting read. It brings up issues for all students going off to college, not just athletes.

I enjoyed the writing style and the opportunity to get to know Maddy through her story. What most appealed to me was the inclusion of research, stats, and the conversation about identity and self worth. I found myself wishing this had been a sociology class textbook, and I would read it again. It was, of course, heartbreaking, but real.
