I am struggling to want to pick this up. I am finding Veronica just too unlikeable.

A literally cute and cuddly read, about an elderly woman’s ‘seeing the light’ narrative and desire to set out on a mad-cap adventure to Antartica to see the penguins and in doing so heal old wounds.

I read this easily in a couple of hours and found it an uplifting and heartwarming tale.

How the Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior

Is imperial!

Once again I pick this book based solely on the cover. It seemed to me to be a pop- romance that took place in some sort of relation to penguins. Well that was not it!

Instead I met Veronica McCreedy, a curmudgeon 86 year old with a somewhat lapse memory, who, as a millionaire, is wasting away in her beloved country home in Scotland. She tells us of a programme on penguins that is playing instead of her normal television shows - this sets off a chain of events leading us to dive more into Veronica's past.

The novel is interestingly written with letters, emails, diaries, blogs, and at least 3 distinct voices. It makes it exciting and moves much of it along quickly but also gives glimpses and only towards the end do we fully understand all. Sort of like the proverb about describing an elephant.

I highly enjoyed it and was excited to read it every day!

This book is for anyone that would like an interesting read about an octogenarian and her life story - frankly someone everyone should be into!
