Beautifully written.

I hate video games, but I could still relate to this book about video game creators. One of the main characters is Asian, biromantic, autistic, asexual, and disabled and I will protect him with my life. The book makes you suspend disbelief sometimes, but it still tells a beautiful story of love and friendship.

As someone who doesn’t enjoy games or video games, I still LOVED this book. The storytelling is fantastic & it’s easy to see how almost everyone who has read it rates it among their favorites.

Over hyped. I don't think there was any growth between the main characters and they could easily get in another fight a month later. The gaming elements of the book were fantastic as someone who doesn't really play games much but the book really struggled during the Pioneers chapter for me.

This is a very character-driven story as you see Sadie and Sam grow up and both get closer and farther apart (physically and emotionally). As a casual gamer with very little knowledge of the tech behind the scenes, I enjoyed the peek into the game development, but the draw is the emotional journey and the complex relationships between long-time friends. I cried often seeing the hardships they endured and the way they hurt each other sometimes. The book is a really honest look at how a relationship can change and evolve and the author is skilled at drawing out emotion, but it ran a little long which kept it from being 5 stars.

An interesting question posed by my book club was whether we thought the protagonist was Sam or Sadie and we were split down the middle. While both made bad choices at times and neither is always likable, I personally thought it was Sam. I empathized more with Sadie (such as the rampant sexism and feeling marginalized at work), but I didn't think she was good at reflecting on her situations or growing from her mistakes.

If it's important to you, I would check out content warnings for this book because a number of incidents are described in detail from a third-person omniscient POV.

The way this book is written is stunning to say the least. I had a difficult time with some of the characters and their choices but I think that’s purposeful and real. This is a book I’ll be thinking about for a long time both for it’s artistry, character study, and it’s themes. Warning (not spoiler): this is a book that makes you self reflect a lot on your own relationships and choices.

Really enjoyed following the journey of Sam and Sadie's relationship as they navigated life and thought it captured the ebbs and flows of life.

so you’re telling me i’m supposed to be living in a world WITHOUT marx watanabe in it? despicable

in all seriousness, this book touched my soul in a way a book hasn’t done in a while now. i haven’t had my heart ripped out of my chest, splattered on the ground, then somehow nursed back to battered health and stitched up neatly back in my body like that, ever in my life actually. sadie, sam, and marx are the lovable characters who i wish were real but still feel like real human beings i can call up at any moment. gabrielle sets us in worlds that are almost tangible to us, with stakes that are so high that they’re unnaturally real and at the same time genuine to society. 

tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow is a story about love, loss, grief, and the courage to live and fight and keep moving forward. i love the world of games i was set in. i love cambridge and california, places i’ve never been to, but i feel like i can say i have because of gabrielle’s stunning prose. i love how she carefully represents disability, racism, sexism, immigration, and so much more hot button topics with grace. i will keep returning to this book whenever life feels hopeless, because the unfair games trio reminds me that life moves on despite everything, and the hardships are what make life worth living.
