This book made me feel so many things, a lot of which are conflicting. I’m happy I got the chance to read it - thank you to my local indie bookstore for looking out for a copy for me - because I think reading controversial and challenging novels is important, however I totally understand why Stephen King pulled it from printing and kind of agree. I’m not going to rate it because it feels inappropriate due to the rise in school shootings. I also feel uncomfortable saying I enjoyed it for that same reason. I will say it was a gripping and impactful novel that was quite different than the rest of King’s other works. I cannot in good conscious recommend seeking this out but it was definitely not as graphic as I expected, a lot more contemplative and psychological.

Short, interesting but not anything extraordinary. Some redeeming qualities but you aren't missing much if you're unable to get your hands on a copy. If this was any longer it would have dragged on a bit too long just for the sake of 'getting it on'.

King has easily earned a place in my heart with this novella. Charlie may be psycho, but he certainly speaks to some great points about growing up and dealing with shitty people.
