A yes from me if you liked From Blood and Ash but wanted less smut and straight to the storyline. It’s honestly kind of identical.
Lots of family/relationship drama in this one. I just finished because I have to review the third one…
*Book 2 of Elf Queen*
*Read if you enjoy *
-Hades x Persephone retelling
-dark magic
-enemies to lovers
-fated mates
I’m obsessed with this series! And I loved book 2 just as much as the 1st! I binge read this book in under 2 days.
The story picks up with Layala’s imprisonment and her struggle to escape and save the realm from the Black Mage. The stress of knowing what happened to Thane was killing me! Watching Layala and Thane work separately to figure out a way back to each other, with the help of their friends, was so stressful but I couldn’t put the book down. And the return of the King!?! What?!
I loved that in book 2 you get more history and back story to fill in the gaps so far. It helped to learn more about Palenor and the Black Mage/curse because by the time you get to the end, you will be blown away!!! The cliffhanger at the end of this book has me counting the days until book 3 comes out!

Really enjoyed the ending, but the other 90% of the book? Not great. It was poorly written, and I was honestly skimming most of the page, basically skipping to the dialogue..
Spoiler free review.
I devoured this epic tale in less than a day!
The author does not disappoint in the second installment of the Elf Queen series. She has a full command of her fantasy realm that help emerge the reader fully in Palenor. The twists and turns kept me guessing and the cliffhanger has had me on a knife edge ever since I completed the books. Roll on book 3!

lol this just keeps getting better and better. I’m hooked
Tif is my absolute favorite. There's absolutely no doubt she's the best side character I've come across. Also, the cliff hanger ending ... Why??
DNF 45%, it was dragging and I didn't like how Laya was still dreaming/having nightmares about the dark mage and not telling Thane, felt like a cheap way to further the plot. So I skipped ahead to the cliff hanger and man am I glad I didn't waste my time finishing. The dark mage turns out to be a lost god and so are Thane and Laya. The dark mage lets Laya know that she is his mate and wife, hence the matching lily tattoo/birthmarks, and the goddess of night.
HELLO, love triangle, which is what I was getting the sense of when the author was having Laya have nightmares with the Dark Mage chasing her and caressing her cheek. That's when I started to not like the book because I picked up the romantic undertone. Even if her and Thane do end up together I feel like the author ruined a completely good romance by introducing the dark mage/Hel as a romantic prospect. All is not completely lost though since Thane/God of War stole Laya/Goddess of Night from the Dark mage/Hel in the previous life so maybe Thane and Laya's love will prevail in this one as well. I doubt I'll be reading the next book but may skim. I really hope the author doesn't have Laya falling in love with the Dark mage or even feeling any good emotion towards him at all OR wavering in her deep love of Thane, that would be the real tragedy.
