The first half of this book was pretty slow/predictable. I did enjoy the mystery aspect throughout the book and that kept me hanging in there. There was a few minor โactionโ scenes, but they felt pretty dull and were clearly just used as time passing situations. The last quarter of the book threw in a couple of plot twists, some actual action, and left on a heckuva cliff.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: a couple mildly open-door spicy scenes
TWs: kidnapping, torture, death, murder
standalone: book 2 in The Elf Queen series
final thoughts: this book was a lot more mystery/thriller/adventure than book 1 and I was loving it! Lots of new situations, creatures, and several twists. The world building continues in this book as we get to see a lot more traveling and we get to see the relationship develop between the MCs- reader beware: massive cliffhanger!! Luckily book 3 is out so we donโt have to wait to see how the story continues to unfold!

I DNFโed that at 25% because even though we are at a supposedly high stakes right away in the beginning, I could care for any of the characters.
At the end I was reading words but they were not making a story in my mind
