Ok, SO the first 60% of the book unfortunately felt quite slow and predictable at times, which made me think that this won’t enjoy this part of the series as much as the first. HOWEVER, I pushed through and can definitely say it was worth it. The last 40% of the story was so action packed and really surprised my with the all the plot twists (which I somehow did not predict at all), it got me hooked again and I couldn’t put the book down. Cannot wait to read the third book, I’m extremely curious about what will happen next!

Piper should be gay. It’s absolutely a missed opportunity.
Actually the fact that there isn’t any queer representation in this book is so disappointing. Other than that, it’s an easy fantasy read that’s entertaining. I find the protagonist gets on my nerves a lot, it could be the Mary Sue aspects of her character? Or maybe it’s because I find her flip flopping emotions more grating than a sign of complex character.

Thane is fun. Although he’s described as morally grey, and I disagree. I don’t find any of the characters fleshed out enough to be considered complex characters much less morally grey ones.

The use of male and female to describe the elves is grating but I understand the differentiation between describing elves and humans. However it does take some getting used to.

The spice level in this series is not spicy. I don’t need spicy scenes in all my books but if you’re going to do it, either commit to the spice, or leave it to vague innuendo. The author’s sex descriptions read like a half assed attempt to boost the romance between two characters that don’t really have a lot of chemistry in general. Their banter is alright but I could have done without the sex if it meant their chemistry was developed in other ways.

It’s better than the first one and I’m going to continue through the last of the trilogy since it did end on an intriguing cliffhanger.

The plot is incredibly thin and the dialogue is so painful. There's no nuance to these characters or growth opportunities. And the audiobook was pretty painful. One of the characters has such a grating voice I started skipping everytime she spoke. I only finished to see how bad the ending was going to be. Will not be finishing the series
