I didn’t enjoy the direction this book went in. It moved from being a book about mate bonds, arranged marriages and choosing love to gods, past lives and love triangles.

Honestly, I’m quite disappointed. I read a blog where the author mentioned writing tropes in and I think it just got too trope heavy. The reveal in this book reminded me of the Wicked Kingdom series.

Having said this, this is a fundamentally well written book and I might read other books the author has written but I won’t be continuing with this series.

"There was no more hiding. No more running. She was the queen piece on this board, and it was time she put her crown on."

I genuinely enjoyed this book and give it a solid 3.5 stars. I enjoyed book one just a tad more, but still had a lot of fun with this.

Pros
- I love the romance in this book. The chemistry between Thane and Layala is intense in book one and continues into book two. But I also liked the aspect that we get to see our side characters romance and we get the chance to have a second romance arc, even if it's small. I also really like the idea of a possible love triangle or to see how the end plays out in book three.
- I really loved the plot development and being able to see more of what this world looks like and how different politics work. I thoroughly enjoyed the side characters we got to meet and the adventures that our main characters went on.
- The plot twist at the end of this book came out of NOWHERE and I was UNPREPARED. I had my own thoughts on what kind of plot twists there might be and to say the least, I was wrong. The ending definitely saved this book for me and I am so excited to read book three when it comes out.
- Layala in general. I love her character development. She grows a lot from book one to the end of book two and I think she finally realized that she knows her value and her direction she wants to go and she won't let anyone get in the way. Probably expect for Thane.

Cons
- The middle of this book I feel like dragged a little. I enjoyed the beginning and REALLY enjoyed the ending (the plot twist had me DYING)
- To be honest, Thane was getting on my NERVES in this book. I felt like everything was revolved around him and it was just irritating. Like let Layala do her own thing, she's a GROWN ADULT! I've seen other reviews say Layala was unbearable or selfish, but to me it was Thane. He just irked me so much.

I am SOOOO excited to see where the journey goes for our characters and to see what other tricks and twist J.M. Kearl has up her sleeve in book three. I cannot wat!

The ending of this book!? I’m sorry what!? I….yo…speechless right now not gonna lie. Our girl does some backwards progress through the book and becomes very dependent but she really does pull through at the end. I’m obsessed with the lore and the world building this book has. The plot is the lore and honestly 10/10. Side character development is so much more in this book. Several twists and turns. Ugh love it. And there are dragons! I am gonna be super impatient, waiting for the next one.

Long Live The Elf Queen is the second book in The Elf Queen trilogy by J.M. Kearl.

I was so excited to get back into this story as the first book ended on a cliffhanger of sorts. Layala has fought against falling in love with Thane. Thane fought to win her heart. Can this new love withstand them being torn apart?

The overall pacing of the plot was a bit slow but we did get a lot more plot development in this sequel. The new characters (and creatures) were interesting and the continued world-building was great. I like J.M. Kearl’s writing style as it is easy to read with just the right amount of prose for me. The atmosphere was on par with the world-building, there was plenty of emotional impact and the ending of the book…I was thinking this was a duology until that ending!!! What!?! I need the third book ASAP!

“I would find you in every life, in every realm. I will be drawn to you for eternity. So yes, call me your mate. I will always call you mine.”

Long Live the Elf Queen is the sequel to Bow Before the Elf Queen, and it continues to follow Layala and Thane. In this book, they must fight for their love as well as learn the truth behind Layala’s powers.

Once again I need to start out by mentioning how gorgeous the cover is. Both books in this series have stunning cover art. It was interesting to see how Layala and Thane handled being separated. Layala underwent increased character development in this installment all while keeping true to her fiery temperament. I also really enjoyed the continued world building. Tifapine continues to be a favorite character of mine. I was really excited to see the increased action and adventure in this book. That ending, though. I anticipated certain elements of the plot twist, but I wasn’t anticipating all of it. I’m really excited to see where the next installment in the series goes.

Listening to the audiobook version of this story was really enjoyable. Having two different narrators act out the different characters helped make the experience more immersive. I believe both narrators did a great job of the actual narration as far as pronunciation, inflection, and adding emotion to their line deliveries. I did listen to the audiobook at a faster than normal narration, but I do that with all audiobooks to stay invested.

The Elf Queen series became one of my favorites so quick because of the unexpected twists. And also the supporting characters! Tifapine is such a fun side character that brings so much entertainment to the story. And I'd love to read a spin off of Fennan and Piper.

The story continues with Long Live the Elf Queen and the adventures were enough to keep me reading non-stop. I could not put this book down. The cliff hanger/plot twist at the end made me gasp and scream into a pillow. The 3rd book is sure to impress. I can't wait!

the plot twist at the end saved the book

This was a low, LOW 3 star for me. If I hadn’t been listening to this I would’ve DNF’ed it.

I liked the first book, and I was disappointed with this book. It gave pre-teen cheesy fairytale vibes, with sex scenes that didn’t do anything for the plot. I’m not sure I’ll finish this series when the next book comes out.

okay..okay... at first I wasn't too about this series..but now I NEED BOOK 3 ! I loved the plot Twist at the end..I'm here for it!
