Almost did not finish. I was struggling to get through. I could not understand where the plot was heading... Soooo many times I was asking why?!?! The ending cliff hanger was almost too predictable IMO. I'm not sure if I'll read the 3rd book.

I was physically unable to put this book down. Over 500 pages and I read it in one sitting. I think it’s safe to say that this series is CONSUMING me. The world expanded so much in this book, and the plot twists were TWISTING. It was a nonstop, action-filled adventure and I’m so here for it.
I definitely feel like Layala and Thane’s relationship developed into a much deeper connection in this book. Their circumstances are not ideal but they’ve found real love in the midst of it all. I loved Layala’s character development in this—she’s become so much stronger and confident and isn’t running away from her problems anymore. We love to see it!
I loved the introduction of the dragons and hope we get more of them in future books. Also Piper and Tif are officially my favorite side characters.
The last 15% of this had me gripping the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to start book 3 when I wake up

This was an enjoyable continuation of Thane and Layala’s story, after the heartbreaking ending to the first book. Thane is on the mend from his near-death at the hands of the dragon shifter, and Layala is imprisoned to be used as a pawn by his evil Father. This book revolves around the two of them making their way back to each other and trying to thwart his Father’s plans that involve bringing a dangerous mage back to life. Their mate bond was severed by the dragon shifter Varletta… but who needs a mate bond when these two would clearly still burn the world down for each other. I really ❤️ their relationship.
There’s a lot of action in this book, the introduction of more characters, additional world building, and MORE TIFAPINE! Where can we sign up for Tif’s fan club? There’s also more spice in this book, though some of the wording choices were a little awkward for me (I really dislike the word “hump”).
Overall a good second book for this series, and it ends with a pretty big reveal to set the stage for the third.

This was a fun read, though the FMC was a tad whiny. She did find her strength in the end. This book has a lot of classic fae tropes; unexpected royalty, shifting, one horse, enemies to friends to lovers, etc. It is definitely entertaining, though I wouldn't call it a must-read.

The story of this second installment felt less cohesive than the first. The quest of the first book was bound by a time limit that moved the plot along but here the plot felt meandering. The main characters kept making decisions that didn't feel like good guy hero decisions. Ending was enough to keep reading, but there were parts of the story I got bored listening. Audiobook narration was okay.
Graphic: Cursing, Sexual content
Moderate: Violence
Minor: Gore, Alcohol
Similarly to my feelings regarding the first book, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Again, I feel like it could have gone through a few more rounds of editing before being published. The story felt rushed at times, however, also lacked in timing clues as the book progressed. I have tried to get invested in these characters, but at the same time, felt like I was trying to rush the end just to finish the story and move on.
