The story of this second installment felt less cohesive than the first. The quest of the first book was bound by a time limit that moved the plot along but here the plot felt meandering. The main characters kept making decisions that didn't feel like good guy hero decisions. Ending was enough to keep reading, but there were parts of the story I got bored listening. Audiobook narration was okay.

Similarly to my feelings regarding the first book, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Again, I feel like it could have gone through a few more rounds of editing before being published. The story felt rushed at times, however, also lacked in timing clues as the book progressed. I have tried to get invested in these characters, but at the same time, felt like I was trying to rush the end just to finish the story and move on.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

The book started really promising and it felt like it would go on like this but unfortunately somewhere in the middle it felt like this were dragging of a bit. The actual plot doesn't feel it matches the length of the book because of the world building that I personally felt like it needed a bit more work and improvement.

The characters were good but it felt like I hardly knew them well besides the few details we were given. I couldn't connect to them. The romance was good as well as the more private scenes between Thane and Layala. And then there's Tiff that is probably the most annoying character in the book.

Unfortunately it didn't feel like it had something special to make it stand out to me regarding other fantasy books. The ending though does leave you wondering and wanting more.

I want to thank NetGalley, J.M. Kearl and Dreamscape Media for the ARC.

This book fell a bit flat for me, but I am so glad I continued onto the third one. The third one is EVERYTHIng. Read this one to get to that one. Is worth it!!

The ending, THE ENDING!!! The ending might honestly bump this up to a five star. More side questy than the first, but the bulk of the book was quite fun, some things I wish had a bit more suspense and some things fell a bit flat but everything was worth it for the ending!!!

I enjoyed these first two books, but could tell by the last chapter it was going to change a lot in the 3rd book. I went ahead and read spoilers for book 3 and I’m very glad I didn’t continue this series. Almost everything changes like a new book completely. For that future whiplash, I rated this lower and am upset I even started the series. Don’t waste your time, other romantasy is better written and planned out.

went in not knowing book 3 was coming

I went into book 2 fully expecting it to wrap up everything and as I’m getting about halfway more questions are being asked and I’m wondering how this is going to wrap up but also FULLY invested! 3/4 of the way I finally do my research to find out that this is not the end of the series which is was then happy to know because I had many questions and was loving where everything was going!!!! This world has opened up! Loved the ending and can’t wait to see where the next book takes me!
