so stunning and lyrically written!! i would DIE for lark and darius <3 i love them so much
This has been on my TBR for ages, think I have checked it out on KU and returned it 3 times before I finally read it, and it was a fun read. The universe is super intriguing and I felt like there was just enough world building that I knew what was happening and want to know more. The second book is longer but I still plan to continue the series.
delightfully enrapturing
I did not know what to expect when I got this book on kindle unlimited. But wow am I so happy I dove into this!
Adventure, magic, forced proximity, secret identities!
This was so fun, kept me on the edge of my seat, and I’m in love! I cannot wait to read more from e.j. Mellow!

Giving this 3.75⭐
This is a really relaxed read which introduces us to the mousai, the three sisters Lakyra, Arabessa and Naya, and their world and magic. The magic within the world is interesting, from their lyrical powers (literally because they can inflict destruction or salvation through song, dance, and melody) to the world from which the magic stems.
There are three books, one for each sister, and at least Song which is Lakyra's book, is very slow paced. Her mission, which is to find a drug supplier, is in the foreground while the romance happens along the way. While the chemistry between the MCs is good, it was so slow. Too slow for me I have to say.
However, I must mention that I listened to the audiobook and the narration is horrid, since there is no differences in tonation of the different characters, everything is spoken slowly, with lengthy pauses and monotone. It's just boring to listen to, and combined with the already slow pace of the book, it just made it worse, despite the story actually being quite intriguing.
I'm sure I'd been exhilarated if I would've had time to read the book rather than listen to it.

This was a good time even with the wonky pacing. We get 90% of a slow pace and then suddenly 10% of wham bam things are happening, adventures are being had, confessions being made, all sorts of stuff.
I didn’t mind the slower paced stuff, if anything I preferred it to the final bit, but I wish it had been more balanced.
I enjoyed the characters and the world and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

This is a very relaxed cosy fantasy.
There is magic, which is seldomly used. I would be interested to see where this magic use goes in the future and see a bit more of it.
I did enjoy this, the world-building regarding the kingdoms was interesting, as well as the different types of magic among the three sisters. It was a good start to the series.
What makes this series more interesting is that it leaves you with many questions that you want to know the answers to.
The Bassett family on the surface are a powerful noble family, but they are also involved in the Thief Kingdom. The three daughters are blessed/cursed with great powers. As formidable as they are separately together, they are a force of nature.
When a desperate young lord asks an acquaintance of the Bassett's for help, he has no idea who or what he has unleashed on himself and his lands.
Though the supporting cast is great the main characters were interesting in their own right as well.
Only the surface has been scratched of this family, their secrets, and the world. As much as I like the magic, I am very interested in seeing the other skills such as blades that have been hinted at and what training they went through to learn these skills.
What is something that could have been more investigated is that the villain isn't really an evil mastermind, he's just a sad, mean person.
I really liked the Thief King and Achak. I wished they were around more.
I guess it could possibly be considered a palate cleanser between heavier books.
I enjoyed this, I didn't love it but it was just a nice read between other books.
