Really interesting! Nature is amazing and random. Us human think we can control everything and that we are on top of the food chain because we are so smart. But when pitted against all the bugs in this world, we are nothing. If this book had existed when I was in high school, I’d be so much more interested in Biology and Chemistry.

Review:
The plot was slow-moving and didn't hold my interest. The concept of the micro world was thought-provoking.

Rating:
3 stars for concepts. Would not read it again.

This book is like a cross between a scientific thriller and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I normally like Michael Crichton, but this book was so unbelievable that I had a hard time reading because my eyes were rolling so much. Parts of the book were brilliantly described - the minuscule fauna that outnumber humans by the millions. The rest was just pretty lame.

Micro is Michael Crichton's last work, written before his death. Crichton, more than any other author that I've read writes in such a way as to keep ratcheting up the tension and one finds his books hard to put down.

Micro doesn't live up to the best of Crichton's writing such as in Prey, Jurassic Park, or Sphere, but it was an entertaining read nonetheless. The premise is far-fetched, centering around technology that allows humans to be shrunk down to the size of insects, but serves as a good tool to drive the story. This premise has been used many times before, but Crichton uses it to show the brutality of the natural word and to contrast human social behavior as a departure from this or, as in the case of the antagonist of the story, show humans being capable of equal brutality.

This was an interesting read even if it does not match the best of the author's works.
