For some reason I had read a first chapter or something before and didn't continue because - I actually don't know. But I'm glad I got back at it again, because I really liked it!
I heard its a funny book but its not, dnf at 30%. It doesnt even take 3 pages for the hero to reveal their true form to the heroine and tell her that she is going to be their mate...not even 3 fucking pages. The guys wants to have sex with her from the moment they meet and keeps manipulating her to fuck. There was no chemistry or connection..especially cuz the sex seemed so forced and then there are the guys who keeps saying that they have to have sex for the mating thing even tho its not even like 10 pages..yeah... and the heroine is drunk 98% of the time so i dont trust whatever she wants. Really boring plot
ELEMENTS OF MISCHIEF is book one in the Hijinks Harem series and is NOT a standalone so be prepared for a cliffhanger! This is a reverse harem (4 men, 1 woman) that has a lot of...*ahem* crazy, wonky sex!
Arizona is a human who's living in her newly deceased Gram's house. When her plumbing gets backed up, she calls on some hot plumbers who are actually ELEMENTALS (ie. air, water, fire, earth). I won't say too much else about the plot because frankly, there's so much happening, it would take me forever to explain! But there's a lot of "plunging" and "pipe cleaning", a lot of freaky paranormal wackiness, crazy twists and turns and loony characters. (I imagine that's why it's called HIJINKS HAREM?? :)
Characters and my ability to relate to them are SO IMPORTANT for me in a book!!! Even if the plot is horrible, if I like the characters, I can overlook the plot. In this case, I thought the plot was actually pretty good. The whole premise was unique and fresh. I liked the idea of having these supernatural beings drawing magic from natural elements. The storyline was a bit confusing at times because new information kept popping up throughout the whole tale but overall, it was fun peeling back the layers of this kooky story!
No, I totally enjoyed the plot but unfortunately, I kinda HATED the heroine, Arizona (Ari)!!! Ugh, between her being pissed off all time, the never ending stream of bad plumbing puns, screaming and yelling at her "husbands" and constantly pushing them away only to draw danger to herself, Ari really got on my nerves!! She began redeeming herself towards the end so maybe I'll feel more comfortable reading book two? Guess I'll have to wait and see! Told completely by Ari's POV with a "what the hell just happened?" cliff-hanging ending. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I love Tate James. C.M. Stunich is okay. But this entire book read like an inside joke between friends and it was annoying as hell.

I was a little nervous about reading this because both authors wrote for the Snow & Seduction reverse harem anthology that I have not been able to get through. The anthology is a bit of a mess, and doesn't look like it's been edited at all (for content or typos). But I am happy to report that Elements of Mischief is actually a lot of fun and has clearly gone through all the right stages of publication!
Reverse harems tend to have the same cast of men – the bad boy, the calming presence, the horndog, and the charming leader – and this was no different. In case you're wondering: Billy (fire), George (earth), Reg (water), and Skeeter (air). But I sort of expected as much, and while not necessarily original, it was dependably entertaining and sexy. They could be a bit much sometimes, especially Reg, who was quite a pig, but Arizona was more than happy to put them in their place. In fact, she was a bit OTT with her swearing and dramatics.
And there is a lot of swearing. A LOT. Plus a plenty of dirty talk. While there was a (secondary) plot other than pure sex, this was very graphic, both in language, insinuations, and actual actions. Unlike some reverse harem stories where you might have acts with each guy separately, or maybe threesomes, there was real group sex in this one. This was generously interspersed between some action and humour. I did laugh out loud a number of times! (There were a lot of cringey but wonderful plumbing puns, ok?)
But what was missing? Well, it was exaggerated at times; this was clearly written to be hysterical and cheesy, but sometimes it went a bit far. The plot was also all over the place; that being said, I did enjoy the ride, if a bit wild and sloppy at times.
Also, it bothered me that Arizona drank so much and ate so little. This is probably a very personal thing, but my ex was an alcoholic, so while I do occasionally have a drink or two, I am very nervous when it comes to heavy drinking. And that's basically all Arizona did. The guys kept bringing her wine, and she kept downing it, but neither she nor they got her any food over the space of a few days. I'm sorry, but that doesn't work for me. Arizona would have been starving and not had the strength to run around. On top of that, she was drinking multiple bottles of wine on an empty stomach and not getting sick? It's strange that this is the thing that broke the spell of the book...
You know what, though? I get the feeling C.M. and Tate got together with some wine and drunk wrote parts of this, and I kinda love it. I had a lot of fun reading Elements of Mischief, so I'm going to keep an eye out for book 2.
I would recommend this book if you enjoy hot group sex, dirty talk, and elemental magic. Oh, and puns, lots and lots of them. This review was originally posted on Love in a time of Feminism

Oh-kay! Not sure where to start with this one. I mean I went in expecting some sass and reverse harem and even some language. But, the girl has such a potty mouth that it took away from the story. I am by far, no prude, but it was excessive. I love the elemental side of the book and really wanted more on that. The mmfmm stuff was ok but Ari was an atrocious lead female. Just too many snarky lines and not enough intellect. The ‘I’m just a barista’ line got old really fast -considering she didn’t make one coffee throughout the whole book. Anyway, I really tried to enjoy it - the guys are pretty cool especially with their elements and Britt was an ok background character.
Adored it
This book left me wanting more. The twists and turns were dramatic and intriguing. The MC was likeable and what I liked most was the humour between everyone. Can't wait for more!
