Murders abound in the latest installment in the Women’s Murder Club series. A young girl’s body is found in a ditch, former police officers are murdered, their lips stapled shut and “You talk, you die” written on their foreheads, an inmate is hanged in his prison cell. A huge shipment of guns and drugs is on its way from Mexico. There are shootouts. The end… meh.

The ratings for this book are sky high, so if you’re a diehard James Patterson fan and have been hooked on the Women’s Murder Club series, you’ll likely enjoy this one. I surely didn’t. The author, not James Patterson, but Maxine Paetro, attempted to be clever, but she wasn’t. I didn’t care about the characters and the plot was formulaic and forgettable. I’m done with the Patterson book factory for a while… there are too many talented authors to read. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

First time reading the series. Also first Goodreads review. Took around 100 pages to really get immersed in this, but it ended in a good place for me. Even though there wasn't anything mind-blowing or super unique to it, I tore through the last 2/3 in like 2 sittings. It felt very contained, but you still get the feeling that there's a big world surrounding the book. I'm not sure I'll read more of them. Maybe I'll get to the highest rated ones sometime.

This series has been uneven for a while now, but the writing on this one was just poor. Very basic, very out of character. I get why they sent Julie to Cat's, but the tone on it was all wrong. I feel like there were a lot of pointless sub plots, the diabetic girl, Evan Burke that added nothing other than to give the WMC members a story line. They could have gone somewhere with an officer involved shooting, but they just brushed it over. I think this series needs to end.

I just finished 22 Seconds, even though I had to skip 21st Birthday for now because all my library’s copies were checked out.  I’ll definitely have to go back and read that one, but I couldn’t wait to dive into the next installment of the Women’s Murder Club series.

This book had a slightly different feel, with a case that felt more intense and urgent.  Lindsay finds herself caught up in a dangerous investigation that has major implications, and the tension kept building with every chapter.  As always, the short chapters and fast pacing made it an easy book to fly through, but the stakes in this one felt especially high.

I really enjoyed this installment and can’t wait to go back and read 21st Birthday to see what I missed.  If you’ve been following the series, this one delivers plenty of action, twists, and suspense to keep you hooked.

The main storyline with the drug and gun cartel wasn’t very interesting to me. I think the storylines with Claire and the child who died and Cindy writing the book were more interesting.
