Are you looking for a wine and chat themed club book or a Galentine’s type book for yourself or a friend? A Girl Like You, which comes out next week, would be a great book for those chats or a gift. I hope you’ll consider it!

I’d like to thank Cari Scribner for sharing her new book A Girl Like You (@cariscribnerauthor ; @circuitbreakerbooks publisher). It’s a witty story of Jessica reclaiming her life after a second marriage ends. She joins a gym. She handles what sounds like a humorous work life with the “three stooges”. She makes an online dating profile. And she talks about the ups and downs of her dating life and her pursuit of what she wants for herself (and it might be sex!).

3 things I love:
✨I really like that Jessica is embracing midlife and what she wants. It’s fun to have a book that centers mostly on her life and thoughts and not really be about her needing a man but more about her finding what she wants. And her awesome leggings.
✨Her relationship with her young adult children. I appreciated the juxtaposition of her online dating life with that of her children. It was funny and warm and loving.
✨Steam! This book has some steam and I like that this story is about a woman at midlife who is still vibrant and open and sexual.

It’s a midlife coming of age story.! how’s that for a genre to be excited about?!

Many thanks to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoy listening to people's bad date stories, so this book was certainly amusing. I admire Jessica's readiness to get back into the dating pool after a divorce, and appreciated how willing she was to try modern dating. She certainly learned a lot.

I really loved Jess's relationship with her kids. They were so open and loving with each other, and I really enjoyed the scenes where they were all encouraging each other about going on dates. Their relationship was hands-down the best part of this book.

I would've liked to see a little more growth from Jessica. I wanted someone to give her a hug and tell her she doesn't need a man to be happy! It kind of felt like she went on bad date after bad date, but didn't learn anything from them. I think the book would've felt more resolved if she learned that she was happy on her own or something to that effect. However, I can totally relate to her awkward, leggings-loving side whose hobbies include hanging out on her couch with her dog.

Overall, this was a fun book about the "what now" of life. If you're struggling to get back into dating after a divorce, you'll find this one hilarious!

☆☆☆☆☆ YAY! My first five star read of 2021! ☆☆☆☆☆

I loved this book SO much. I felt like I was reading Jessica's diary. She was such a refreshing character, of a certain age....like me and I could relate to this story SO much. This book made me feel so many emotions. It was sad, happy, funny and Jessica was so resilient and independent...There was even lots of sexy time and it felt so authentic.

I love how the book was open ended. The reader can decide for themselves if it ended happily ever after or not. I am hoping it means there may be a book two as I would be so into that! Needless to say, if Jessica were real...I'd like to be her friend. All. The. Stars.

Overall I enjoyed this book and the fact that it was a story centered on a middle-aged woman navigating life after two divorces. It dealt with a lot of topics: independence, boundaries, dating, children and friends, and more. It was a quick read with short chapters, although the pacing felt varied and the chapters sometimes felt disjointed. I’d recommend this book to anyone who has gone through similar life changes or who wants a break from romance centered around young adults.

I was thrilled when Cari reached out to me to review her book and told me it’s being reviewed as similar to Sex and the City, which is my absolute favorite show! So of course I said yes!

This book follows Jessica, a 50 something (though she’ll tell you she’s 49), twice divorced woman who dives into the world of online dating. We join Jessica on her hilarious adventure of meeting strange men, heartbreaks of being ghosted, and learning to be ok with herself.

This book was a treat to read, funny, adorable, and fun!
