Overall worldbuilding was great and I immediately felt a connection with the characters, but at times the writing got a bit messy and it was hard to tell what was happening.

I enjoyed this book, but it was nothing too crazy. Sometimes I didn‘t understand what was happening or  things didn‘t get explained, but it was cozy and fun for me. I liked the vibes and that it reads like a fairytale. Also the ending lets many things open. I would have loved to see how the world and the relationship between elfs and humen changes.

I absolutely loved this story, Margaret Rogerson has become one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait for more books by her!

The only minor complaint I have about this book was I wish there was a bit more to the ending. Once Isobel defeats the Alder King and, consequently, becomes Queen the book pretty much ends? She and Rook talk of getting married, but what of her morality and his immortality? I guess the whole book I kind of thought that at some point Rook would give up his life as a fair one to become mortal. Obviously, this doesn’t happen but I still have questions for whether he truly stayed a fair one after he married Isobel. I think her rule could even change the way all fair ones operate forever, due to the reactions we saw to her portraiture of the fair ones.
