The Tokyo Zodiac Murders is such a complex murder mystery, with some cosy elements. We follow 2 very likeable amateur sleuths who task themselves with the responsibility of solving a 40 year old cold case - the murders of one man and his 6 daughters. I loved the characters, as well as the setting and it was written in such a unique way I’ve never experienced before. The author breaks the fourth wall and inputs himself into the story, urging us as the reader to solve the mystery ourselves with the clues given. I’m nowhere near clever enough to have solved the case myself, but I loved that interactive element. I’ve settled on a 3.5 for this one, but rounded up due to the uniqueness and how much of a fun time this was. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

2 pages in, I thought all the 5 star reviews were
exaggerating and with 2 pages left, I thought that
five stars was an understatement. This is the perfect
example of a mystery novel. The writing was detailed
enough to bury any clues and the plot was innovative.
The novel was structured beautifully. I have a new
favourite mystery novel (sorry 'The Murder of Roger
Ackroyď, you had a good run ;)) and I can't wait to read
Murder in the Crooked House!

looks like being an avid crime reader pays off because i guessed the culprit in this one just by reading one clue 🙂 i’ve read enough detective fiction to know that when a body is discovered without a head or with a head crushed to the point that one can’t recognise the person, then something is fishy! that is when i guessed the culprit in this one! even Kazue’s murder was easy to guess! it was howdunit for me and honestly, that was very impressive! one of the best cleverly plotted murders i’ve ever read! 🙂↕️
Interesting and a bit horrifying at the same time. Crazy book! I didn’t find anything that I could solve, I just kept reading! I’m not sure if I’ll read it again, but I’ll definitely think about it. Oh, and it’s very well written! The humor on certain pages is too good!

Very fun mystery in which the writer challenges the reader themselves to solve the case :)
At first reading the opening I didn't feel like I could get through this book, it started so odd and weird that it put me off for three weeks. I started the book in earnest yesterday and it was an absolute pleasure to read and a page turner. I haven't been able to put it down or stop thinking about it when I finished reading in bed last night.
It certainly kept me guessing and I still don't understand some of it after having it explained. I would have never guessed any of it. It certainly was different to how I expected and imagined. Throughly enjoyed it and I hope that more of the authors works have been translated into English.
The opening prevents me from giving this a 5 star review, I think if I were to read it again. I would bump it up to 5 stars.
