A great, quick read. Plays with Viking mythology and allows a ten-year-old to be a hero. Could be great for a young boy.
Two stars for the read -- some day I might understand what the world sees in Gaiman -- and an additional star for Loki, who is worth the price of admission no matter where he appears. If I could give stars for the illustrations the number would be somewhere well below zero.
A fun read for fans of Norse mythology. Pretty simple, so children will likely get the most out of it, but the writing is good enough that adults should find things to appreciate as well.
As amusing as it was to read a Gaiman story where I share names with the hero, I struggled to stay fully engaged. Perhaps being too keen to inject lots of Norse mythology into the narrative hurt the story overall. Not awful, not great.
A cute short mythology story from a great storyteller!
Everything Neil Gaiman does is good. This is no exception. For added amusement imagine Anthony Hopkins, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Hiddleston voicing Odin, Thor, and Loki.
Are there other books about Odd? I would really love to read them. Great winter fairytale read.
Loved the illustration & the story as well...based on Norse mythology...its about a brave, clever boy who seems to be weak physically but helps his strong mythological friends overcome their enemy...thats all i will say about the story...wasnt bored one bit while reading this short story...highly imaginative i like such books..
I really like how Neil Gaiman tells a story and I like the old Norse tales. Having both those elements in one book was great.
I love Neil Gaiman since introduced to Ocean at the End of the Lane and now I've become quite spoiled b/c I want to hear him read his own books. Short little listen between books that helped me finish out the week. Just a cute little story about Odd and the animals he meets along the way. Fantastic!
