If we could figure out the things that I do and don't enjoy with Romance novels, that would be great. Because I was so surprised to find that I really enjoyed this one. Obviously, I enjoy reading Romance novels or I would just stop, but it seems like I can't get a handle on whether I'll like the one I'm about to read when I'm going into it. I just don't know my tastes. This one was a fake dating Romance so we shouldn't be shocked that this has been my favorite hockey Romance in a hot second.

We have a hockey player who comes from a wealthy family and his wealthy family's head of PR getting together for a fake relationship in order to save his reputation and allow a deal to go through for his father's company. I've enjoyed rich people drama, I like hockey, I love fake dating, let's go. I had read the first book in this series (My Lucky #13) and liked but didn't really love it AND after buying this one on Kindle I found out that it was Ford's book. In book one, Ford is a player and I really didn't like how crass and over the top he was. In this book however? Ford has changed in a real way due to circumstances that are kind of beyond his control and this new Ford Jacobs? Hell. Yes. Is he still a bit crass? Is he still a bit over the top? Yes and Yes. But the hero has to win over the heroine in this one and I just love it. He has to prove that he's changed and she has to cope with some baggage from her past. It was so good.

My main problem with this one was that any time I wanted the book to explore something we would flip the page and move on. It's not surprising that a hockey Romance comes until 300 pages, but I'm a girl who literally complained a few years ago because 750 page Fantasy novel was not long enough. If the central relationship in a Romance is good, I could read an additional 50...100...200 pages of it. I will eat it up. So, when I didn't get to connect as much with the characters or experience the things that I wanted them to explore, it left me wanting more. Which I guess is a good thing. I do want to dive into this author writing duo's backlist (which is extensive) and also decide if I want to read any of the other guys' stories in this series.

Fake shmake

Things change. Ford changed. Lena...may change. Annabelle changed things and now her daddy is changing things for them both- one PR rep at a time.

Faking It with #41, made me realize I need to fess up, and just boldly admit….I am a Hockey Hottie Harlot.

This is the third member of the Florida Fury that we’ve met and I love them all, each of them tear through the pages with flattering lines and a panty melting smile, and I refuse to choose a favorite, so I will love them all.

Lena does PR for Ford’s family, and during her employment there were a few times that it was up to her to spin Ford’s shenanigans into something that put him into a more favorable light. She had been through a lot, but she never allowed it to hold her back from achieving her goals. I adored her, she was intelligent and sassy, she had no qualms about going toe to toe with Ford.

Ford’s world shifted not once but twice, first finding out he was going to be a father, and second when he was thrust into being the only parent, after the other walked away. Ford’s love for Annabelle shined through in every action and reaction he had, it was clear that the moment his eyes landed on his baby girl was the moment she became his world. Ford Jacobs as a devoted, hearts in his eyes, father, is going to cause ovaries across the world to detonate at atomic bomb levels.

Lena and Ford’s chemistry is palpable any time they are near one another, their argumentative banter is their foreplay, and when you add in little touches, and heated glances, I thought my kindle would combust. They were made for one another, yet their insecurities and doubts wouldn’t allow them to hold on tightly to one another, and instead they attempted to keep a wall between them. What began as enemies masquerading as a couple evolved into 2 hearts becoming one.

Piper Rayne masterfully brings their words to life, whether it’s a small town or a sports team, the camaraderie is loving and full of laughs, love, and heart, always heart, a literary hug, the type that cures a bit of what ails you.

I wasn’t Faking It with #41, why? Ford and Lena’s story is captivating from the first word to the last. An enlivening blend of frenetic chemistry, an ovary exploding hero, a sweet sassy heroine, sharp remarks and snappy comebacks, a titillating slow-burn, with dollops of feels infused throughout. A top read of 2021, and a new all-time favorite single dad romance.

Quick Summary: A single dad, enemies to lovers, hockey romance

My Review: Faking It with #41 by Piper Rayne is part 3 in the Hockey Hotties series.

About the Book: When a hunky hockey player is suddenly blindsided by his baby's momma and he is left to care for his infant daughter, a stealthy PR plan is put in place to throw off the press and the public. Unfortunately, the plan calls for him to have a fake relationship with his enemy. Before long, she doesn't feel like an enemy any more.

My Final Say: This was a solid read. I genuinely liked it.

Romance readers if you like friends to lovers and fake engagement stories, than, you will want to check out this book. I have not read the prior two books in this series but that is ok. This book can be read as a stand alone novel. Although, I am looking forward to reading the past and the next book in this series. I want to get to know the other guys and their love interest better.

Lena is definitely, not a "puck bunny". She is intelligent, caring, witty, and does not automatically fall for Ford's charms. Although, there were some really close encounters that brought the tension. Thus, when Ford and Lena did finally hook up, I was so ready for it and them. Plus, who else during a conversation about cleavage will call out a guy for not showing his "groin cleavage".

Author, Piper Rayne brings the heat with this book. The only thing that might have been "fake" is the engagement but the love is real.
