This book was everything I needed. It was a nice change to read a book about a normal man trying to make something of himself and not a billionaire. I loved the small town feel and the real issues they had to deal with. Ansen found himself in a hard situation that anybody would struggle with. This book felt real to me and not a far fetched fantasy. And let’s be honest I’d steal his dog too.

This was my first book by this author and it will certainly not the last.

I loved this story, so much cause the FMC was strong and don’t let go. She’s looking for her dad to notice her while she’s trying to do what she want in her life. Ten years has past since Aggie runaway from her home town, now she’s fierce and not the naive girl she used to be when she called off her wedding. Now, after a drunken night with her sister-in-law, she ended up sending a email to her former futur husband, Ansen.

What I loved the most in this story was the fact, that for once the MMC was not only broken by his life, but also not confident in himself. It's really unsual and I enjoyed it. He’s trying to be a better man even if he have to work with Aggie, his ex. Between erasing the past to start over, reconnected with family, Ansen's trying to do everything in the right way, for not failing once again.

What I also loved about this book, it’s when there are others members of their family involve, it add more fun in it, but also sadness and anger sometimes. It’s hard to be in a family when you’re surrunded by only brothers, and not just one, but four… (I know it too well, I have three older brothers).

The two characters share something special and their love are undeniable.

It was such a sweet, funny, beautiful and a great story, easy to read and well witten, so I recommended it.

A big thank you for this author @mariejohnsstonwriter. Than you for trusting me and sending me your book. I’m so glad and grateful for all of this. I can’t wait to read the next book.

A Reckless Memory by Marie Johnston is the first novel in the Oil Knights series. This second chance romance story is about Aggie Knight and Ansen Barron. Aggie lived and worked on the ranch owned by her father, Barnaby Knight. Ansen lived in a cabin on their land while working as a horse trainer for Barnaby. Their story starts out on their wedding day, when Aggie learns that her father is paying Ansen to marry her. After hearing this, she leaves Ansen and her family and doesn't look back. The story then picks up ten years later when Aggie sends out a drunken email offering Ansen a job.

Ansen accepts the job not knowing it was for Aggie, and since he desperately needs work he still takes on the job even after learning Aggie will be his boss. Unfortunately I have to say that I didn't care for these circumstances that brought them back together after ten years. And when Ansen tries to get Aggie to give him a second chance, I had a hard time with it because he didn't even know if he would be in it for the long haul. After how things had ended with them ten years ago, I don't think it was fair for Ansen to pursue anything with Aggie until he was ready to have a future with her. I would have been more accepting of him if he discovered how much he really did love Aggie during their time apart, and then tracked her down to try to win her back.

With that being said, I can understand Aggie's feelings when it came to Ansen and respected her decision to finally give him another chance. I did like how Aggie was such a strong female character. I loved how she would try to stand up for herself. It was definitely tough for her growing up with four older brothers and a father that was a real piece of work. I felt for her and all that she had been through. I could relate to her older brothers when it came to their concerns over Ansen. I found myself thinking similarly, and I wouldn't want my sister to get hurt again. But at the end of the day, I would support her no matter what. And although I wasn't a big fan of Ansen, I did like when he took Aggie on dates and remembered things she liked from when they were together. I also enjoyed Ansen's jealousy when it came to Aggie and other men. I was glad to see how Ansen reconnected with his brother, father, and the rest of his family.

In the end, I was happy to see Aggie get her HEA. Overall it was a good read and a great introduction to the Knight family. I am interested to read Cody's story next, as well as the rest in this series.

I did receive an ARC and voluntarily read it for an honest review.

This is a slow burn, second chance romance with a twist that made for great tension and angst. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like Ansen because of his past actions, I was won over fairly quickly.
Aggie is an independent, strong character who has been brushed aside by her rancher father because he couldn’t control her life. It’s a bit of a theme for her, something she continues to struggle with. It made her very likable and a sympathetic character. I love that she has kindness and humor despite holding herself back for emotional protection.
Ansen is back in her life, he slowly shows that he’s willing to put in the work at her new animal rescue and between the two of them.
The chemistry between them has been bottled up and it explodes in heated and romantic ways. There’s still mistrust and fear between them, they just take it day by day.
It’s a story with a lot of emotions, interesting characters and plenty of complicated family dynamics.
I don’t read many western/cowboy romances and I was surprised how much I loved this story and characters. It was a refreshing change of pace, the writing is beautiful and the pace of the story was perfect.
The romance was slow and delicate, the steamy scenes were great. I loved the way Ansen and Aggie got close again while rehabilitating animals together, it was a great part of the story.
The end has a bit of a surprise twist that is unsettling for all the characters.
They work hard for their happily ever after.
I’m so glad I tried this new to me author, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will read the author again.

“The man I’d almost forgotten about. He was nothing but a reckless memory.”
This was my first book by Marie Johnston and I wasn’t sure what to expect but was intrigued by the blurb. I was dying to see how she would turn Ansen into the good guy considering he was being paid to marry Aggie.

Ansen was a horse trainer working for Aggie Knight’s family ranch. Ansen and Aggie were engaged but when Aggie overheard that her father was paying Ansen to marry her she bolted. (Rightfully so!) Now ten years later, Aggie has hired Ansen to work at her Rescue Ranch for her own form of revenge. Although what she doesn’t expect is to find out her anger for the last 10 years may not be everything she wanted it to be.

Ansen clearly made a mistake but I loved watching how he proved himself to Aggie and knowing all the reasons behind what he did truly did change the situation. This was a great start to the series and I look forward to more Knight stories!
