Aggie Knight is a young woman who discovers she is being lied to just before her wedding to Ansen.
Through her journey she discovers she is a strong-willed woman that sets out to make it on her own.

This is a slow burn, second chance novel that I enjoyed. There is a few drinks, a lot of trips down memory lane and a range of other great characters that I want to read more about.

If you are looking for a great contemporary romance, pick up A Reckless Memory today.

This second chance romance hit me differently than I expected. For one thing the 2nd chance was not confined to the romance. There was also the 2nd chance for Ansen to reconnect with his brother Archer and the rest of the Barron family.

I expected to really dislike Ansen, but I didn't. I think I would have if he had seemed smug or arrogant when the secret was revealed, but he didn't. He also didn't get a chance to explain which made me wonder about what else may have been going on.

I thought Aggie's father as well as her brothers were pieces of work. They didn't seem to be able to give her credit for even being able to breath on her own.

It was so interesting to see that even when Ansen showed up to work for Aggie, her brothers could not acknowledge he was there because Aggie had created the situation, not due to any intentions he had.

I appreciated that Ansen and Aggie's 2nd chance was not smooth sailing. Ansen had to prove himself and Aggie had to learn to trust. I felt for Aggie because it seemed like very few people in her life gave her any consideration in regard to who she was as an individual, what she needed, or what she wanted. It seemed as though she spent most of her life being ignored by the people closest to her.

I was not surprised at all at her father's final wishes. I had been waiting for that one. I did like that some of the characters from the other series made an appearance. Specifically Isla, Laney, Archer, and Liam.

I was glad to see Ansen and Aggie's 2nd chance ended with their HEA. The last couple of chapters really left me with a smile on my face.

I wonder if the next book is going to be about Cody and Vienne?

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

A Reckless memory isn’t just a second chance cowboy romance, it is an amazing, emotional read with a strong female lead character that I would be proud to call a friend!

This second chance romance was extremely well written, there were none of the annoyances you sometimes find; Aggie (Agatha) stays strong and empowered, Ansen doesn’t instantly change or get forgiven, although he has plenty of regrets; these things take time.

They grow and develop, and learn to understand themselves as well as each other as part of an amazing storyline, where we meet the rest of the families - the Barron’s (from the fab Oil Barrons series) and the Knights (Aggie’s four strong and troubled brothers), and I can’t wait for more from this series.

The book is full of fabulous moments: some sadness and plenty of joy and laughter. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I loved this one!

10 years ago Ansen and Aggie were getting married when she overhears that he only dated her because her father offered him money. After she learns the truth, she runs away from her family and Ansen. Now, he’s down on his luck and Aggie wants revenge. She hires him to work on her new animal rescue for next to nothing by giving him a fake name.

He realized that he messed up and wants Aggie back! He has to tread carefully to earn her trust.
He shows up to his brother’s home town and gets to know his family.

I really loved the second chance Romance. Their communication was great and the spice was so good

“One day, Ansen, I hope you know what it’s like to have your entire heart ripped out, to have your passion stripped down, and be humiliated in front of witnesses. To lose everything after you already gave up so much because you thought you were going to be happy.”

Discovering her dad was paying Ansen to marry her on her wedding day, devastated Aggie. She had been willing to give up all her dreams of going to college and leaving the Knight ranch for Ansen. So, his betrayal not only hurt her but gave her the strength to leave the ranch and her father’s controlling ways. Now she needs someone to help her with her horse rescue, AKA Horse Rescue, and he just so happens to need a job.
“I loved you then and was too scared to admit it. But what I feel now blows what I felt then out of the water.”

Ansen was bitter after his family lost their ranch, so when Barns Knight offered him money to marry Aggie, he saw a way to buy back his family’s ranch. He regretted the choices he made and losing Aggie. Now ten years later, he has no job, no money, and no one will hire him. The job offer from a horse rescue was his only option.

A Reckless Memory is the first book in the Oil Knights series. This was a new author for me, and I am so glad I got to start the series at the beginning. This second-chance romance will have your emotions swinging. The characters were genuine with real-life issues and regrets. This was a beautiful story of heartbreak, second chances, rebuilding connections, and regret. I highly recommend it and I look forward to future books by the author.

Holy freaking plot twist!!!!
I absolutely loved this book and the MC’s plus the side characters. I’m definitely going to have to read the whole series! This was a great second chance romance. At first I was mad her brother meddled in her business but the growth Aggie and Andean went through was so necessary for them to have their HEA. This was my first Marie Johnston book but I will definitely be coming back for more.

Aggie finds out her dad was paying her fiancé the day of the wedding and she runs away. 10 years later she is in a new town with a new job and wants to set up an animal rescue. The only person she can think to hire is her down-on-his-luck ex fiancé. Ansen just wants something of his own after his dad lost their family ranch, having a wedding called off, and having his treatment of animals called into question with his last employer. He answers an employement ad taking him back home. To work for his former fiancé.

I was really excited about this one because I loved that Aggie was his boss and I love a woman in charge. I loved Ansen finding out and rebuilding his relationships with his family. I just had a hard time getting into the story and keeping parts straight. Both Aggie and Ansen have issues with their families and for me it was a lot of reputation but with different character names. With all that being said, I think this world has been set up in such a way that I want to read the rest of Aggie’s siblings’ stories.

ARC REVIEW

This was the small town, second chance romance of my dreams

I was in tears during chapter 1!
Aggie and Ansen are set to say I do, but the morning of, she find out her father has paid Ansen to marry her in an attempt to keep her close on the ranch. So of course, she leaves and doesn’t look back! (Taking Ansens dog with her)

10 years later she’s back in town and grown into a strong, no BS, boss babe, has started up an animal rescue and decides to hire Ansen after he has gone through some workplace drama and it’s struggling to land a job

I really enjoyed this. The pacing in which Aggie and Ansen rekindle was perfect, not to fast and not super slow. They felt like real people, realistic lives, realistic problems. The dysfunctional family aspect was done great to, not overdone which I appreciated.
I adored Ansen and his dad and brother reuniting, it really showed his growth.

There was so much to like about this book! Cowboys, dogs, horses, friendships, love and family ❤️
It has perfectly set up the series with Aggies brothers and I’m super intrigued to learn their stories

When I saw that Marie was starting a whole new series, I knew I had to go to the TIPPY TOP of my TBR. And boy oh boy am I glad that I did.
One of the things that I appreciate about Marie the most is that she is not afraid to make families messy. We know that in real life not everyone gets along, and it isn’t hunky dory all of the time. Especially when money and land are in the mix! She gives us some old school rancher men that are a little stuck in their ways and watching their kids work their way to the life that they want is always so satisfying! And that is so true for Aggie. Agatha Christie Knight, but goes by Aggie was born to a free spirit, a grumpy old school man. She was often protected by her brothers that didn’t know how else to support her, and in the end did the best that they could, because well; they were also parented by the grump. I think of how her father hurt her, and how it must have felt when she realized that the man that she loved and was planning a life with was paid by her father. My heart hurt for her so badly. But this girl was not about to let anything hold her back, so she worked for what she wanted and made her own way in the world. And she is a force. And definitely the kind of girl you want by your side and to be BFF’s with.
Ansen has always roamed, and never felt settled or at home. He is desperate to find his way in the world, but seems to always be trusting and aligning himself with people that are set to hurt him. I think to others he may appear as a user, but I think he is lost, and is looking for his place in the world. He has damaged relationships with pretty much everyone around him and is almost at rock bottom when a job offer for a rescue comes in. And he heads to the last place he ever wanted to land, North Dakota. Where he comes face to face with his lost love Aggie.
Their past is painful, but I love how they both navigated it. These two have some serious soul deep connections and I love how Ansen loves Aggie just the way she is. Wild hair, freckles, and dirty boots. Not only do they have a serious emotional chemistry but the connection between the sheets was undeniable. And man can Marie write a sexy steamy scene. These two could hardly keep their hands off each other, but it was no way over the top or unnecessary for the story line. It was perfect. If Marie is a new to you author this is a great place to start, while this is interconnected to previous Oil Barron series you won’t be lost, but I will warn you; you will want to go back and read all of the Oil Barron series, and you will be frantically waiting book #2 in this series. I am so looking forward to what the Knight family has to bring, and let’s just say that Aggie’s brothers are going to give us all of the feels.
