This is about Audrey Rose and she's a girl in the late 1800s. She wants to be a mortician/doctor and is very interested in dissecting people. There's also a love story with Thomas. Audrey has lost her mom (I know shocking) and her dad is very distraught by it.
Initially I thought this seemed intriguing because a historical mystery is underdone. Plus the idea of Jack the Ripper seemed cool. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. I honestly should've known because it had James Patterson presents. Now me and James Patterson have a past of good-mediocre-terrible. I've read his "When the Wind Blows" series and loved those, had some fun with the Woman's Murder Club. Then I read a few others that were mediocre to bad, and then I read Zoo which is one of the worst books ever written. So I should've known that this book was probably going to be mediocre at best.
This book felt like it was trying to be all about feminism but felt like "I'm not like other girls" and kept getting brought up in the most annoying way possible. The story was cliche and predictable. It was pretty obvious who Jack the Ripper was from the get go. The sleuthing was subpar. I might be too old for this, and have way better mystery novels.

Well, that was unexpectedly entertaining. Any time I stumble onto YA books via social media, I tend to preemptive set myself up for disappointment because so many of them are terrible, but I quickly came to adore Audrey Rose and Thomas. Though I had the Ripper's identity figured out by around the 25% complete mark, the lovely prose and our two intrepid leads were more than enough to keep me interested. Liked this one so much that I went ahead and ordered the full series.

Temné uličky viktoriánského Londýna, Audrey Rose s Thomasem na stopě jednomu s nejznámějších sériových vrahů, no neláká vás to hned k přečtení?
