I loved this book. I thought it had the perfect mix of mystery, a fierce female lead and the right dash of romance. Looking forward to seeing what Kerri comes up with next!

Pros:
♡ A+ for the main characters; the dynamic between Audrey and Thomas was very cute and funny at times.
(I don't know why Thomas Cresswell really reminds me of Will Herondale)
♡ Feminist lead
♡ The setting and atmosphere of Victorian London
♡ The writing; really vivid and descriptive

Cons:
✑ It is really predictable who is the murderer but it's still really interesting to read about his motives.
✑ Audrey; she's really annoying and dumb sometimes but I still like her in other aspects.
✑ Not that scary and creepy as I expected.

When a book opens with a girl elbow deep in a corpse I should not be this bored the entire book! The banter was mid, the killer was obvious, and I should have known better when I saw the James Patterson endorsement! Worst of all I hate all the booktok ravings about this that led me to here...

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco is a dark, thrilling mystery that captivated me from the start. Set in the gritty streets of Victorian London, the story blends historical facts with gripping fiction, following a smart and determined heroine, Audrey Rose, as she navigates both societal expectations and her own fascination with forensic science. The mystery surrounding Jack the Ripper kept me on edge, and the atmospheric writing made me feel like I was right there in the eerie, foggy streets. It’s a perfect blend of historical intrigue and chilling suspense!

Well, I tried. This is one of those books that it SEEMS like I should like it, and yet... I did not.

I am generally a fan of historical books with feminist characters but this was just TOO anachronistic for me, not to mention the heavy "I'm not like other girls!" overtones. The love story was way too forced. One minute she was "I won't let his handsome face affect me like other girls would!" and yet she spent every page after constantly commenting about how handsome he was, ugh. And the love interest himself is... an ass? A know-it-all jerk?

Idk I guess a lot of people liked these books and you might too but nope, not for me. DNF at 18% so I won't even count it for the year.
