Writing style takes some getting used to. It reads more like a compilation of term papers, filled with facts from meticulous research than a story the movie tells. Stories were changed a little for the movie and I really liked the Kathryn in the book much better than how the movie portrayed her.

DNF :( I wanted to like it but I gave up. The individual stories were very interesting but the majority of the book felt too much like struggling through a history book in high school. It was a lot of info and I could not help myself from being bored. Very disappointing.

This was a really cool read. It was super informative and powerful. I loved learning about all the incredible women of color who influenced the aeronautics of America and its place in the Space Race over time. Sometimes, the pace felt a little too slow and it was a little difficult to absorb all the different names and facts, but overall an important book and I think the author did great recounting what happened. It’s clear she did a lot of research. I liked the movie based on the book a lot too, even if it was loosely based.
Data heavy, this is not your typical narrative, but the information is fantastic. It's amazing how much has been done from WWII-Modern era by these amazing women despite society trying its damnedest to keep them down.
I prefer fiction. Movie was good, but book is hard to get hooked.
