I've been reading this series for about a month now. I chose them because they beat out Tolkien' LOTR series for a Hugo award. I am a huge Tolkien fan so I had to see what series could ever pull off such a thing.
The foundation trilogy is impressive but not enough so to warrant beating LOTR. But upon completion of the 4th one, I've decided that this series is probably at least on par, and certainly better in some aspects. This is the one that really makes one go "wow, this man (Asimov) has a beautiful mind".
Though it's not completely fair to compare 4 books to 3, if we add the Silmarillion, it evens things up again.
The world Asimov created isn't as expansive and finely crafted as Tolkien's, but man, the dialogue is amazing. And the real cincher for me is the philosophical and scientific ideas he brings into the stories.
The only real critique I can think of right now is that the characters are too unrealistic. Almost every single character of consequence is intelligent and reasons things out as opposed to acting on emotion and we know that's not how human beings are.

There were parts that grabbed my attention, others dragged too much. Trevize, a Terminus councilman, is my favourite character because he is a just a normal human being. He wasn't manipulated by the Second Foundation or Gaia, nor did he believe in the Seldon Plan which of course gets him in trouble, among other reasons.
Trevize's outspoken feelings about Seldon landed him in jail but, Mayor Branna had other plans for him: go find the Second Foundation. At the same time the Second Foundation is dealing with a threat not from Terminus but its source is unknown. What the members of the Second Foundation do know is that this entity or group of people can and are manipulating minds. After The Mule's defeat the Second Foundation created a group called 'observers' or spies and this group has agents on Terminus.
So, both Foundations are engaged in a conflict of their own making and have been manipulated by a third party. Who or what is the third party? Their name is Gaia. As Trevize and company look for the Second Foundation and Earth, the Second Foundation is looking for those who are interfering and manipulating both Foundations. All arrived at Gaia. Gaia is a planet whose inhabitants are connected mentally to each other and the planet. They are no longer individuals.
There were some big surprises. Robots created Gaia and are in the background supervising their actions. Gaia follows the Three Laws of Robotics. Well, oh well. And I guess this is why I liked Trevize so much: he is an untouched mind because he has the ability to make the right decisions. I had no idea of course, about this because Trevize's behaviour endear him to me. He had a mind of his own and wasn't afraid to go against the beliefs of the First Foundation. Gaia recognised this and manipulated others to bring Trevize to them and then put on Trevize's shoulders the burden of deciding whose rule will best service the Galaxy. Trevize's choice of Gaia and Galaxia left me wondering about if this is actually the right path. But... Trevize found out all references about Earth have been erased from Gaia and I know he won't be able to forget about it. He doesn't like mysteries or not having answers.
Next book is most likely about finding Earth and I can't wait

En este momento le pondré 4 estrellas considerando que hay una unidad entre Los límites de la Fundación y Fundación y Tierra, completando el arco creo que algunas de mis dudas o sorpresas al leer el libro me ayudarán a profundizar en ellas.
Por el momento la verdad es que Asimov continuo en la senda que se ve en La Segunda Fundación, incremento los riesgos y organizaciones rivales por el momento eso no ha sido de mi agrado pero falta continuar en el camino.
Sigue siendo una gran historia sobre el desarrollo de la civilización, el uso de las tradiciones y el origen de los mitos, Asimov como nos gusta a la mayoría y cada vez más conectando lo que al final fue una saga con diferentes protagonistas.

چقدر خوب این جلد شروع شد و ادامه پیدا کرد و هیجانانگیز شد و چه پایانی هم داشت :)
برخلاف سه جلد قبل، این جلد بسیار منجسمتر هست و داستان رو از چند زاویه تعریف میکنه که در نهایت در انتها به هم میرسند.
قلم جذاب و پلاتهای سادهای که در اصل بسیار لایهلایه و پیچیده هستند همینطور داره بهتر میشه و خلاصه تجربه خیلی خوبی بود و با لذت تمام کتاب رو خوندم.
وقایع آخر کتاب رو واقعاً دوست داشتم به این سبب که قبل از بنیاد من سالها پیش سهگانه بازی Mass Effect رو انجام دادم و تکرار کردم و داستانی که داره رو واقعاً دوست دارم و برام عزیزه، دقیقاً اون ۴ انتخاب آخر Mass Effect 3 کاملاً الهام گرفته از این جلد کتاب آسیموف هست و به شدت برام جالب بود که چه انتخابی انجام میشه و در نهایت ناامیدت نمیکنه و کتاب هم با یه روزنه بسیار عالی برای ادامه تموم میشه.
اگه داستان Mass Effect رو دوست دارید، خوندن مجموعه بنیاد آیزاک آسیموف به شدت پیشنهاد میشه. البته چیز تکراری نمیبینید، وقایع و پیامها و مسائل کاملاً متفاوت هستند و Mass Effect بیشتر از آسیموف، از چیزهای دیگه داره اما یجورایی که به هم متصل هستند و سر پایان مس افکت ۳ و پایان این کتاب که به شدت منطبق بر هم هستند (البته نتیجه و what's at stake ماجرا فرق داره) به نظرم تجربه بسیار خوشایندی باشه، همونطور که برای من بود.
