This book tells the tragic story of a country (Iran) through the personal life of the protagonist in a way that’s incredibly dynamic, engaging, and easy to follow. The illustrations are excellent and add depth to the culture and emotions of the author in a way that a traditional book couldn't. It doesn't just cover the political themes of the Islamic Revolution, but also explores the protagonist’s existential struggles as an immigrant and her return to her homeland. I absolutely loved it, I learned so much about Iran, but it’s also deeply unsettling because of the many similarities with the rising tide of fascism we’re seeing today in west countries.
