This didn't land for me like other Christina Lauren books I've read. The characters weren't great for me and it was hard to stomach Carey tolerating Melissa's behavior. I felt like the faux book excerpts and articles sprinkled throughout were cheesy and didn't do it for me either. I skipped almost all of them.. can't win them all I guess

I enjoyed this one from start to finish. I've been a fan to CL book since I read the Wild Seasons series back in 2016/2017. I've had a few hits and a few misses when it comes to their books. Every time I see a new release I'm always excited to give it a try. I honestly don't even read the synopsis most of the time anymore. I dove in to THE HONEY DON'T LIST completely blind.

This book follows Carey and James, assistants to the famous Melissa and Rusty Tripp who are known for their home renovation show COMB+HONEY. I drew a lot of parallels in this couple to some of the popular home reno couples that I see on TV. So much so that I constantly was asking myself "who inspired these characters?!?" Almost to the point of distraction. LOL!

I think I would call this an office romance book. Carey and James end up forced to go on a book tour road trip with the tumultuous couple. Their job? Keep the public to learn the truth of what a disaster they really are! Ha. Good luck. I like the natural progression of their relationship over the course of the book. I did find the end a little cliche but still found myself smiling from ear to ear.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a fun office romance, romantic comedy with a dash of ridiculousness. This story will grab you immediately and you'll find yourself reading late into the night. If you usually enjoy Christina Lauren's books, or sometimes find them a miss for you, I definitely suggest you give this one a try.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

Carey Douglas has been the assistant to home design and remodeling power couple Melissa and Rusty Tripp for a decade. James McCann was recently hired to be Rusty's structural engineer and is frustrated that he is treated like an assistant instead of doing the engineering he thought he had signed up for. Melissa and Rusty have a new book out and a new TV show about to launch and are poised to become more popular than ever. What the world doesn't know is that in reality, Melissa and Rusty can't stand each other. When things come to a head right before their book tour is about to kick off, Carey and James are told they have to go on the tour with the Tripps to make sure the two appear as a loving couple in the public eye. Neither wants to go along with this, but they each have their reasons for needing to keep the job, so they quickly pack up to go on the road. Traveling the west half of the country in a bus, Carey and James have plenty of time to get to know each other as they work together to keep the Tripps' public persona positive.

This book ticked off a lot of the boxes I like in a good rom com, and it was well written. Something about it just didn't click with me, though. I liked it well enough while I was reading it, but I could easily set it down and not think about it for days at a time.
