Honestly just kind of average, I wanted more time to build up the love between James and Carey, it felt a little instant lovey, it wasn't quite instant head over heels but it also wasn't casual coworker sex. I loved the relationship between rusty and Carey and wanted more of that. Melly needs to take a friggin Xanax and I just generally wish the pacing had been more conducive to the book I was highly anticipating.
My least favorite book by Christina Lauren.... I don’t have anything to say tbh just mehh.

Another emotional, sweet romance from this author. Cara and James are forced to go with their employers on marketing events and are charged with ensuring the Tripps do not destroy their public image of a perfect marriage. With all of the pressure and interventions they grow close and eventually dive into an intense, sweet romantic relationship. I loved that James stands up for Cara and wants her to get the credit she deserves. Cara grows into a confident woman who learns her worth and fights for her dreams. Misunderstandings get in the way of their feelings for each other but James fight for their love. Just breathtaking.

This was a fun, cute romance. I will say, I found the Chip and Joanna Gaines-esque couple that was sort of at the center of the novel a little distracting, because when a fictional person or situation falls too much in line with a real life comparison I can struggle a bit.
That being said, Carey and James and their budding romance was enjoyable enough. I found Carey to be a bit more well-drawn and interesting than James, and while I liked seeing their romance take off, it did seem to go from strong dislike to intense passion to love very quickly. I didn't necessarily find that overly believable, but I liked the characters enough to forgive it, mostly.
I will say, I found the two main female characters to be more well-drawn overall than their male counterparts. I also found James to be drawn a bit too idealistically at times. I wanted more from him and his character than I necessarily got.
This certainly isn't at the top of the pile of contemporary romances I've been seeking mental shelter in lately, but it was an enjoyable enough read, and kept me turning the pages to see how it would all play out.

“So this is what it feels like to be with someone who wants to give simply for the pleasure of it.”
this was a short and sweet book, a bit slow but i liked the progression of their relationship and melissa and rustys influence on them. carey realising she didn’t deserve what she was getting was so important !!!

4.75 i wish one of the “stars” had died, the way they set up all those stupid police interviewed. plus they were such horrifically irredeemable people. best part of the book was the fleshed out depth of Carey’s character and that in the end she really stuck to her plan to care for herself, finally.
A fun read with likable protagonists (heroine >> hero). Everything gets tied up quickly at the end and Melly's about-face left me somewhat unconvinced, but you know? It's fine. It's a cute book and was a nice distraction during a fairly stressful few days. I did go into it expecting it to be funny, though, and it really wasn't, so that was a bit disappointing.
Carey Douglas and James McCann are opposites in every sense of the word. She barely finished HS and he’s an MIT graduate, but they both work as assistants to Melissa and Russel Tripp respectively.
When they are saddled with accompanying the home remodeling couple on a promotional trip, right before the launch of their new show, they’ll get way more than what they originally bargained for and will find themselves leaning on each other to get through their days.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s beautifully written, funny and touching in many ways.
The characters are relatable and lovable. Where Carey has allowed herself to be taken advantage from for years and doesn’t know how to assert her wants and needs in the job place, James knows exactly who he is and what he wants. I loved the way their relationship developed and they discovered each other.
The backdrop and the secondary characters are also a great addition to the story and I honestly couldn’t have liked it more if I tried.
