This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It will not be the last. I fell in love with these characters! I loved that Trent was the warrior for his family. They have been through a lot, and lost a lot. They all centered around one little boy that made them determined to give a safe life. I loved Gage! That sweet like character had me falling in love from his first words. Eden and Trent came to life. Their life together at first didn’t make sense, but in the end this Ms. Jackson wrapped these characters in each other’s arms. I can’t wait for more! I am so excited that Logan & Jud are getting books! I want Tessa too!
Hot dang! I did not see that plot twist!! First one from A.L. Jackson and it won’t be the last.
alrighty…let’s get into it.
starting with the positive! this is a very, very wordy book. HOWEVER… the descriptions were beautifully written and really gave insight into how the characters are feeling. Eden and Trent are immediately drawn to each other and the amount of prose takes away the “insta-love” trope feeling i usually dislike and makes it feel much more meaningful. and i think there were a good amount of plot twists and actually caught me off guard and made me want to keep reading to find out what happens next.
now, that being said….i love myself a Brooding hero as much as the next person, but lord above Trent Lawson is the mopiest man on the planet. given his truthfully very dark past, i can understand. but he was somewhat insufferable even 50% through the book. i’ve read many a book with a broken MMC and each of them manage to budge a tiny bit but not him. it took away so much from my enjoyment when he constantly is stringing along our heroine and making her miserable 90% of the time.
i’m looking forward to the other books in this series, but this just missed for me.

Trent and Eden are electric 🔥They might not have gotten off to the best start, but there’s no denying that there’s something between these two, and they can’t seem to stay away from each other. I love the chemistry between these two–and the twists at the end?! I didn’t see them coming! These two found each other and feel safe with each other, and they’ve got the perfect little family with Trent’s son Gage. And Gage!!! I need to start getting life advice from this little man! This book brought out a full range of emotions, and I ate 👏🏻 it 👏🏻 up 👏🏻
I did not like the writing style, Too draggy and repititive for my liking. I thought the story and chracters are progressing but the next chapter, it comes back to square one. Also, so many unnecessary sentences/words thrown into it like they're trying to hit a word count.
Without those I might have finished it because their back stories are intersting.
But if you're looking for single dad-grumpy/sunshine novel with story depth, give this a try.

EXCUSE ME. EXCUUUUUUSE ME! WAS NO ONE GOING TO TELL ME HOW GOOD THIS BOOK WAS?! WERE YOU ALL CONTENT WITH ALLOWING ME TO GO THROUGH LIFE NEVER MEETING TRENT OR EDEN OR THE SWEET LITTLE BOY GAGE?! My disappointment with you all is real.
I began this book because I will be meeting A.L. Jackson at a small signing next weekend and I wanted to be able to speak to her about her stories rather than stuttering about absolutely nothing🤣 Well let me tell you, I’m going to credit this read to @catherinecowlesauthor because if she didn’t post about this signing, I don’t know when I would have started this book!
Since I had never read A.L. Jackson before, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when going into this book. I will absolutely admit that I judged a book by its cover and I’m not even sorry because I LOVED this book.
Some tropes in this book:
✅Single Dad
✅Good Girl/Bad Boy
✅Boss/Employee
Did I know any of these prior to starting? NOPE. Didn’t even read the blurb. But when I say Gage had me wrapped around his little finger and I could not fathom putting the book down! I loved the way Eden and Trent were so different but like two puzzle pieces, they fit together perfectly. Trents reservations were no match for his feelings. I loved reading about them finding comfort in each other while Trent was simultaneously ready to roll over anyone that put his family and/or his woman in danger. There wasn’t a single moment in this book where I was losing interest and that is a show of an amazing book. I can’t wait to read Jud’s book now!
As you can see by the start date it took me a while to get into this book but once I was in I was hooked and I finished it in two days like after I read the first maybe three chapters I was in all the way and fully my heart goes out to this man because he has so much pain so much pain and he doesn’t think that he deserves to be loved but he does and that is what Eden does she loves him with her whole heart and for me it’s been there since the beginning and honestly it was totally worth it this ride was everything that I needed at the time and the twist probably my favorite part!!!!!!
