I've been trying -and failing- to find an entertaining history book to read. I like history but I want a good narrative.

Hibbert has an amazing voice that really makes you enjoy the story, even though it isn't as scandalous or salacious as it is normally depicted.

Can't wait to read more by him.

I read s lightly different edition to this. It was fantastic - history as a thriller, fast paced and incredible. A monstrous family where ambition was met with no restraint, and subject to no morals. The lives described would licentious for the most corrupted hedonist, even more so for a pope and his son a cardinal.
A really great read, and one which makes me thankful that this particular time in history is at such a great remove from now.

Enjoyed the book, but there were a few phrases that made me scratch my head because they were a little biased. But still good!

Nothing ground breaking, but it is a really nice easy read on the Borgias.

This is a very good overview and full of interesting, entertaining and sometimes repulsive anecdotes that capture the essence of those cruel, barbaric but often romantic times mixing murder most foul with the exquisite art of the renaissance. If you're interested in Italy or this period of history then this is well worth a read.
