Charlie Huston's "Hank Thompson" series is a fun read, with a believable story arc for the characters involved. It's not great literature, but not hackwork either. Huston is a master of "natural" dialog, where exchanges between characters sound like real life conversations. This is both a blessing and a curse.
If you like crime stories, and stories where the protagonist gets in over his head, give this a look.

I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as the first one in the series. This book had me shuddering in horror at some of the graphic violence, to be honest. Still an interesting read, and I will still likely read A Dangerous Man, as I already have a free copy for stanza reader on my ipod.

At the start I was still comparing Hank to Joe Pitt. Somewhere along the way I got swept up and Hank became his own man. The only downside was all the football talk

At the opening of this book Hank Thompson is enjoying his life in the Yucatán Peninsula with the only downside being his narrower than usual ear canals but, if you read the first book, [b:Caught Stealing|21278|Caught Stealing (Hank Thompson, #1)|Charlie Huston|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167321241s/21278.jpg|2406776], you know that will not last long. Like the first book, lots of gritty action and wild circumstances. Overall though, I did not think this book was quite as good as [b:Caught Stealing|21278|Caught Stealing (Hank Thompson, #1)|Charlie Huston|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167321241s/21278.jpg|2406776] mainly because the supporting characters just did not seem as interesting and some of Hank's actions did not seem logical. Listened to the audio version which was read by Christian Conn.

If any book can be described as “high octane”, this one can. This is the continuing story of Henry Thompson, who proves the old adage that no good deed goes unpunished. Huston’s writing has been described as compassionate noir. He’s the only writer I know who can write a scene that is both horrifyingly violent and funny as heck at the same time.

Apparently this is the second book in the trilogy about Hank Thompson. I found it odd it never revealed the back story. The book stood pretty well on its own. I'll go read the first one now.
If you like raw pulp, this guy spins a good yarn.
