3.5 stars, because this was such a grotesque story and it made my skin crawl, but was very compelling and had me thoroughly engaged.

LaRocca’s collection was one that held my attention for hours. I started and finished this in one day. “Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke,” was definitely the most disturbing. Overall, I kinda like this

I was a little let down by this book. I really loved the beginning, where the characters were meeting over the internet (in 2000) to discuss the sale of an antique apple peeler. It felt authentic and somehow familiar.
Although I was too young to be online in 2000, I was online in 2008, and it was really a different kind of feeling. The internet was so new and unexplored and strange.
I think the beginning had a lot of potential, and I wish the author went a different direction.
I found Agnes's quick downward spiral hard to 'buy in' to. Although I do believe there is a message here about people taking advantage of other people, I don't think the baby gore scene added to the message. I found it unnecessary and just... gross. I have a baby and I really can't stand baby-gore. I wouldn't have read if I knew so... to all future readers: honestly, check the trigger warnings for this book.
I really wouldn't recommend the book, personally.

"I feel like a new constellation, scabbed in glittering black...A smear across the universe."

This book is A LOT, and I'm not sure how to talk about it. It's grim, intense, and so very weird. It's a very uncomfortable read, and there are some gross scenes (and some animal stuff I really could have done without). I know these things may not sound positive to you, but I loved this book. It has stuck with me since I read it, but I'm not sure if this is something I'll re-read or not. If you're looking for something that will really bother you in the best way, pick this up. Look at that quote at the top! I love it.

Here's a note I wrote down when I finished the book - Disturbing and beautiful and weird??? I don't know. I feel sad and I don't know what else. Manipulative and scary.

Content notes - homophobia, mention of suicidal ideation, killing a creature, animal death

It was good but not amazing. Disturbing read. I liked how it went in the end. Will definitely check out the other authors works.
