So close to a DNF.
I was hoping for the love of god for some character growth but nope, none.
Maksim is an egotistical ass whose background of trauma was insufficient to redeem him in my eyes.
Paisley was his therapist. Couldn’t get past them together - one minute she was saying ‘no’ the next minute, ‘let’s go’. For what? He confined do deceive, tell half truths and speak to her like crap.
Uh, this was hard to finish. I shouldn’t have bothered.

I don't need nine dates to know how special this man is.
-ME: Same, girl. Same. 🫠😮💨
I adore this series, and I am thrilled I discovered this author. Maksim and Paisley were such a great couple despite having every reason not to be together. I enjoyed Maksim’s relentless pursuit and Paisley’s ability to inspire growth. The journey was scorching, humorous, and tender.

"I don't make a habit of falling for boring women, kotik. That's why I like your claws."
-Maksy is book boyfriend gold, but I'm thinking all of these hockey studs are.
This book is for people who enjoy a well-written, lighthearted read, heavy on spice, that still manages to pack an emotional punch. Or maybe you have a thing for hockey players, puck bunny. 😘

Piper Rayne upped their hockey game with The Trouble With #9
The trouble with number 9 is that he made me swoon, mesmerized me with his charm, made me want to punch him, and then made me fall in love with him all over again.
Paisley is my type of person, she follows the rules and would choose to stay home in the evening over going out, and she’s not one to take chances. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much in common with a character. She’s also witty, sweet, she’s genuinely kind and it’s clear she’s in the right profession, too bad that profession is completely wrong when it comes to the guy she’s falling for.
Maksim is all sorts of cocky and charming, he’s witty, fiercely protective of those he loves on and off the ice. He’s been on a streak of upping his penalties and the owner of the Fury wants Paisley to get to the bottom of it. Too bad Maksim isn’t talking.
I knew I would love this, and it was a given that I would laugh out loud, but what caught me off guard were the tears I shed with Maksim and Paisley.
Their chemistry was immediate, but the slow burn was deliciously intense with witty banter, and Maksim showing Paisley that he wasn’t like anyone else, his level of swoon worthy was beyond other book boyfriends.
I love these worlds Piper Rayne brings to life, whether it’s a family series or hockey team, a small town or a hockey arena, they make you feel like you’re a part of it, you’re a member of the family.
The Trouble With #9 is an exemplary example of everything I love about Piper Rayne’s writing. An engrossing blend of immediate chemistry, a scorching slow burn, a swoony hero, a sweet/sassy heroine, rife with witty banter, a dusting of feels, and an extra dose of intrigue on what’s to come from the Fury.

Quick Summary: A hockey bad boy meets his match
My Review: The Trouble with # 9 by Piper Rayne is book 2 in the Hockey Hotties series.
About the Book: A Russian hockey player with an attitude falls for his therapist. Because of a tragedy in his past, he has stalled in the relationship department. After she hears him confess that he does not love her, he fears he may have lost the only woman he has ever loved.
My Final Say: This was a really good book. I loved the backgrounds of the leads. Their stories were so rich with loss and emotions. The mother's advice was a pivotal moment. Readers who enjoy romances with a bit of heat and character growth will adore this one.
Other: Getting to know the teammates got me even more interested in this series.
