I thought I was getting a cute cozy fantasy with a strong found family aspect. This was definitely that and so much more. Someone might think that this is sickeningly sweet, but when you are tackling themes of inclusion and acceptance of others, nature versus nurture, and belonging and family you want some sweetness to help balance the book from the heaviness that those topics could bring.
I put this off for way too long. Now that I have read it. The House in the Cerulean Sea has quickly become one of my favorites. This book was equal parts emotional and funny. In times where we are so divided there are many lessons needed from this book. I would happily recommend this book to any reader.

I wish I could give this book 8 stars. I haven’t read such an inventive story in a long time; Klune did an exceptional job of not only making this world feel real but of realizing EVERY character, their own stories, motivations, desires, etc. I read to be transported and I thought I was really on Marsyas Island in the house in the cerulean sea. I would also die for any of the children, Zoe, Arthur, Linus, Helen, J-Bone, etc. And if I don’t get a spin-off of Chauncey’s adventures as a bellhop I WILL RIOT!!

Linus was a wonderful main character who’s story line I truly enjoyed reading. And the magical youth were all incredible characters on their own. That being said, this book was ok. Had some really great and sweet moments, but over all seemed pretty drawn out. There were parts that I wanted to keep reading, and then there were many parts that I couldn’t wait to put the book down because it wasn’t interesting. I have been finishing my books within 2 days of staring them and this one took me almost a whole week because I just couldn’t get through parts of it. Decent book overall but definitely not one I would recommend.

This was so good! A man whose job to give recommendations on whether a not an orphange of magical children gets sent to an orphanage on an island with the ultimate magical children. While there, he goes under a transformation and learns more about who he is and more about the children he's supposed to be investigating. There is, also, a handsome man who makes him feel and think about how life is more than just work.
I would defintely recommend this book.
