I hate when authors conclude a series and then release another book of the first book but in a different person’s perspective. Seems like they just want to make her money.

Finally got to read Hardin's point of view.
You will fall in love with Hardin all over again after reading his book.

a straight up mess. part one of the book was okay. part two really made me upset about how the most important scenes in the first book was not included in this. part three was okay i guess. this book felt like the author just wanted to make more money so she wrote this and had it published.

I'll be honest, I held off on reading this one because I wasn't all that interested. The ONLY reason I broke down to read it was that the final film in the After series adaptation from the books is being released in the next couple of months.

I flipped between reading and listening, sometimes falling asleep before I could finish a chapter while listening. I have to say I don't feel like I missed much. I feel this was a synopsis of events told from Hardin's perspective. I suppose thats how Anna wanted it, but truly you could do with skipping this one and be just fine!

Such an unnecessary book, not only Hardin's POV didn't add much to the history, also all the extra background and stories were pointless and just to make a bigger book.

I thoroughly enjoyed going back and hearing Hardin’s side of when he first met Tessa. It also goes a bit more into his past before her. I loved that at the end we get to hear perspectives from a few other characters as well!

Before gives you background and insight into Hardin’s past as well as the backstory to other characters in the story like Ken and Trish, Vance, Molly, and Steph. It was great to see what events shaped each of their lives, although well written, some of the details we a bit TMI, mainly because who wants that much detail into their parents, um, love life...icky! I had really related to them as parental figures and, although it was done well, it was a bit much, haha.

I was pleasantly surprised to not just get the “before” of Hardin, but the during and after as well. I would definitely recommend reading this last though so it doesn’t spoil you for any of the other books.

Of course, some of my favorite characters in the series are Tessa and Hardin, but I really loved Landon and Smith. The character I was most surprised with how much I liked getting to know more about was Molly. I feel like she is a bit of a dark horse in the series, the one who plays a much more significant role than you realize.

Hardin Scott & Tessa Young
