Will They or Won't They

I really appreciated the down to earth take on a celebrity romance, and I loved the FMC’s struggle with anxiety, and how she deals with it. I also appreciated the mature way the studio had them work through their issues by going to couples therapy appointments. Mainly, I enjoy stories where the couples put in the work to have a happy healthy relationship, and this showcased that.

Omg I love this one!
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No

i didn’t think i would like this because it was enemies to loversish but i absolutely LOVED it

In all honesty, this is probably a 3 star book, but my fandom loving heart had so much fun reading it that I'm giving it 4.

Will They or Won't They is about Lilah and Shane, the series leads on a Supernatural/X-Files/The 100 type of show. The chemistry between them, like that of The X-Files David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, is a huge part of the show's success and has brought the actors fame and fortune. During the first year of the series Lilah and Shane were secretly hooking up every chance they had until everything went wrong and they started hating each other. At the end of the 5th season, Lilah left the show, but when the book begins Lilah is returning for the 9th and final season.

The book goes back and forth from the present to the past and it's fun, but sometimes jarring. Both characters are flawed, but realistically so (at least for actors). Lilah has anxiety and can be sharp, which I loved. Shane is a people pleaser and doesn't speak up for what he wants. Actually both of them suck at communication and when you add that Lilah always believes the worst in people, well the miscommunications pile up. Their whole dynamic is immature and messy as hell.

I liked them being forced into couple's therapy by the producers and just wish we'd had more of that. It seemed like it was going to be the framework of the story but it falls away pretty quickly. The characters make these big emotional leaps that seem to come out of nowhere and I'd have liked them a little more fleshed out. We go from them hating each other to liking each other to loving each other without some of the building blocks needed to make those emotional swings make sense. The therapy scenes are my favorite part of the book.

The book is a bit long. There actually came a point where things seemed like they'd come to a natural conclusion but there were still 50 pages left. I knew that didn't bode well and I wish the author hadn't tried for that last twist as it made me like the book less. It wasn't needed at all.

This isn't as mature or heavy as How to Fake It in Hollywood, the author's previous book, but it's also not as tight. I remember that book building and building while this one sort of meanders all over the place. Still I had a great time reading this and would read more by the author.

i didn't love the "enemies" portion of this second chance romance book, but how i adored the "lovers" part of it. the rekindling of the 2 main characters was so sweet that it made the journey of reading the first half worth it

also convinced that hollywood/TV reunion plots are not for me? at least i haven't read one that i was enthralled by
lighthearted medium-paced

Really fun, very great chemistry

I don't know if the order this story was told in worked for me, especially a choice close to the end. But overall, a decent read.
