I decided to check out the Agatha Christie books with detective duo Tommy and Tuppence (mainly because mom taped a show about them and I refuse to watch until I’ve read the book). While I enjoyed the characters, especially the wittiness of Tuppence, it was a bit difficult to keep all the characters straight. The two characters are bored and jobless so they decided to embroil themselves in an adventure of national importance (something about the Labor Party, I didn’t really get it). The ending was mildly predictable but still enjoyable. While most of Christie’s books that I’ve read are more cerebral thrillers and whodunits, this had more physical action which was meh. Lots of running around and kidnapping and stuff. Overall, not my favorite but it was a nice foray back into reading!

Oh man, this was GREAT. Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Crowley, professionally languishing in post-WWI London, decide to try out being private investigators. Almost immediately, they are thrust into a dangerous, complicated mystery involving a lost treaty, a missing American girl, and a high-powered, global gang of VIPs who are trying to overthrow the British government. While some of the twists and turns are somewhat predictable, there are some surprises in store, and the pacing is excellent. Christie also perfectly blends suspense with humor; this book is genuinely funny at times. I was thrilled to learn that this is a series and look forward to reading the next installment.

This is another reread for me, and I have to say I probably liked it more this time around.

We are introduced to Tommy and Tuppence for the first time, and it was a good introduction indeed. They are "good sports", their dialogues are full of banter and are really arrogant sometimes, but in an endearing way. I liked how they managed to face adversities with smugness and confidence, and somehow manage to escape and get things right. I still prefer Poirot though.

Also, I still prefer a countryside setting, but I enjoyed the running around from place to place, and how the characters split up to go on their own adventures at one point.
The plot was intricate and well-done, and the ending was crazy! I knew how it was since I remembered from the first read, but I can tell the first time I was soooo blown away, it was such a surprise. The fact is that Agatha sprinkles some clues here and there to make you believe it is another one, and you feel so smart thinking you managed to catch that, only to find out that she played you all along and the important clues are others, or they had to be seen the other way round.

All in all, it is a fluffy book with a lot of banter, which make it enjoyable. I may like books just a little less light, but still a great read.

"The Secret Adversary" ,was first published in 1922 and was the the first mystery that featured Tommy and Tuppence .Reading it brought back nostalgia of childhood summer holidays and trips to the local library☺️☺️.Also,it is surprising how out reading tastes evolve as we grow older .My younger self did not like this book much as her other books but this time I loved it 🤔

Fun and kept me guessing. I love Christie's clean and direct prose.

I loved Julius's character, and Tommy & Tuppence are supremely likeable for main character sleuths.
